Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 20, 2009 9:23 am Morning All, I have had so many sleepless nights lately about the tile layout for our new house. We had decided to go with exactly the same layout as the display home for the tiles, but seeing as though we have added a spa bath to the ensuite i am thinking that there is too much feature tile, The tile is Mosaic Glass/Stone Fuse Noce 298x298 Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I understand that if we make changes we will be up for a $500 (i think) change fee but seeing as though they are $38.15 each for a 298x298 tile we might get some money back too. We are only having a single basin to fit in the spa bath. Please give your honest opinions on what you would do. Thanks Katherine Re: Massive tiling dilemma 2Sep 20, 2009 1:23 pm I'm not sure how much help I can be, but I tend to agree with you that the feature tile might be a little bit overwhelming when it's used for such a large area. I think I would be trying to minimise the feature tile usage and just pick out one of the colours for the rest of the tiles in the room (ie: in the shower and around the top of the spa). Of course, you'd have to do your sums to see what the cost/refund would be, and then decide just how important it is to change the tiles. Keep in mind too, that tiles can always be replaced afterwards too - while this might also be cost prohibitive, it also might not be if you stick with what you have and then it turns out that you like it. At least it's not something huge like brick colour or roof colour that you're just stuck with. P. Re: Massive tiling dilemma 3Sep 20, 2009 1:42 pm Hmmm it is a lovely tile but I can see why you are worried it might be too busy. Are your floor tiles going to match the tiling that surrounds the spa? I think that would look good and not compete with the mosaic. I think the way the display home has used 3 different large tile colours and then the feature tile plus the sheer curtains is a bit of a mish mash. Because there's a lot going on with the tiles and colours I think a more minimalist look could make it work really well. (ie: no accessories or clutter on vanity etc) But I am definitely no expert! ~*~Moved in on the 16th April 2011~*~ Re: Massive tiling dilemma 4Sep 21, 2009 3:34 pm Thanks Piper+1 and zoe's mama, I was thinking that it was too much and was just after someone else's opinion. When i keep looking at it i start to get confused with what i want. Thanks Katherine Re: Massive tiling dilemma 5Sep 21, 2009 4:33 pm I would use the mosaics as a feature against a plain tile. That's what we have done, albeit with differenct coloured mosaics. Will post a pic... Re: Massive tiling dilemma 6Sep 21, 2009 5:37 pm Hi, I am thinking too that it may be a bit too busy and would probably be better shown off as a feature. It's a gorgeous tile. We are having mossaics as a feature tile, we have gone with having it behind the taps, and a row running from the floor and over the bath hob and up and a vertical strip down the shower wall. I will post some pics from your from a show home where we got our ideas from. Do you have any other changes you want made and perhaps the builder can incorporate this in to the one variation charge? I wish you the best of luck. That looks so lovely Caroline, it's a very serene bathroom and the feature tiles are just enough Re: Massive tiling dilemma 8Sep 21, 2009 10:33 pm Wow thanks for all of the replies... I think i have decided that a change is definitely required. The pics gives me something to think about. Thanks Katherine Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq. So laying costs are 5000$… 0 7548 Hi, I'm clearing the tiles from our horrid 50 year old bathroom and preparing to lay new ones. Bugger of a job getting the old… 0 8088 4 14463 |
