Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 04, 2009 10:29 pm I bought one of those tile grout pens the other month from Bunnings, and all the ones they seemed to stock were quite thick sponge type applicators. Very thick. Not thin and precise like a pen. Anyway, so I attempted to use it one day shortly after purchasing it, and while it went on ok (just OK though, and I'll get to that in a second), it got all over either side of the grout lines and on the tiles, because of the size of the applicator sponge. The instructions said to wait 45 minutes before rinsing off, so I did (I'd only done a small area to test and because it was quite difficult to do it), and the white paint was quite hard to get off the tiles once it had dried. The grout itself looks good MOST places I tried it out. And that's the other issue - the paint tends to smudge all over wherever the sponge applicator is. Meaning, if I run the applicator smoothly along the grout line, the paint goes all over, not just in the grout line as I mentioned above, and this also results in the grout line not getting that much paint/colour on it, so you have to go over it several times to get enough so it shows up. And by doing so, as the wall is obviously upright and you have to hold the bottle at an angle pointing down (if you hold it at a right angle to the wall, not enough paint comes out), it tends to go everywhere. It's quite awkward. Surely it's not supposed to be this hard!! I want a THIN pen! A PRECISE pen!!! Why did my Bunnings have none of these, I implore you!? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Wall tile grout pens - how do you use them properly? 2Sep 04, 2009 11:07 pm hmmm I have a grout pen. It is like a texta, you press down and the grout comes out in a nice thin line. I keep it for when I move rentals. I give the shower a clean and a scrub as best I can, then I run the grout pen over it. I always get my bond back!! Ok it is called Grout Pen, by Whte Knight Paints, it has 7ml on the side of it. I intended to buy it at Bunnings the day I bought my own grout pen (which as mentioned above, is not ideal at all), but they didn't seem to have any White Knight ones at all. All the ones they had were brands I'd never heard of before and looked like my one - all thick, like a large sponge applicator and thick bottle. How the hell did I become a senior member!?
