Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 29, 2009 1:57 am I cannot believe I did this, but I somehow chose a shroud basin for the downstairs WC, and I no likey . Is it difficult/expensive to change this over to a pedestal after handover? It's this one....http://www.stylus.com.au/default.asp?pa ... 32&mode=pr Re: Eeeew, what was I thinking??? HELP! 4Aug 29, 2009 9:34 am Helyn I havent heard of a shroud basin - is it the one that 's shown in the picture of the link? - if so, it looks OK to me The link shows a pedestal basin - so I'm confused. I'm definitely no plumber ... but I think the plumbing for a shroud basin vs. a pedestal basin is different - so possibly you cannot change over. Please check with a plumber first though. Re: Eeeew, what was I thinking??? HELP! 5Aug 29, 2009 10:21 am SuH I wondered why you were awake at 2am now I know, losing sleep over a basin...been there done that I honestly don't mind it for a WC. What kind of pedestal basin would you have. Nah, SuH, it was only 11.30pm- just home after seeing Young Victoria at the movies but was thinking about the shroud the whole time My forum clock is always wrong....If I could find my ****** camera recharger, I'd post a pic . Helyn I havent heard of a shroud basin - is it the one that 's shown in the picture of the link? - if so, it looks OK to me The middle picture is of the shroud, the last picture is the pedestal. The wording of the link suggested to me either could go over the pipes- just not sure how easy it would be to swap....any plumbers on here? Re: Eeeew, what was I thinking??? HELP! 6Aug 29, 2009 12:10 pm I think either a shroud or pedestal would be fine ... better than exposed pipes. Sometimes we macro focus on a particular item and worry about it, but if you think about it .. it's in the toilet, not on public display and by the time you decorate, tile etc it will all look great. But if it bothers you greatly, speak to the builder before plumbing etc is done, this way you can get the plumbing done to take a pedestal (if it's different to a shroud) and either ask for a pedestal cover, or ask for the shroud not to be installed and buy the pedestal yourselves after handover. (maybe tradelink could advise you if plumbing is different) Good luck. I am sure it will all look wonderful when finished. Re: Eeeew, what was I thinking??? HELP! 7Aug 29, 2009 1:13 pm Now I'm not sure what a shroud is I thought the shroud was the big white bit covering the pipes, it comes separately to the basin itself, I think that's right. Is a pedestal shorter underneath the basin, does it come halfway down the wall and not the entire way ?? OR is it vise versa to what I just said. Re: Eeeew, what was I thinking??? Ahhhhh, I should have known that, I had bought one with a shroud myself until I realised it wouldn't fit in my space and I had to change everything it's not that bad actually Re: Eeeew, what was I thinking??? HELP! 11Aug 29, 2009 4:13 pm Ok, called the Caroma centre and got an answer- I just have to get over it as it cannot be changed without changing pipes. Oh well, it's the kids toilet anyway... Now, what can I second guess next.... isn't a garage level with the rest of the house a given? pretty sure they 'came around' long time ago. if you have a flat block, the garage is usually level with the rest… 1 17575 Hi there, long-time lurker but first time posting. I've bought a house 2 and a bit years ago and last year we had some major water damage on a converted pergola area… 0 7950 Yes, unless you are in a low intensity rainfall area or the area is protected from rain.
