Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 22, 2009 10:44 pm Hi all. This is my first post here, so I hope I add the pix and the plan properly. I lease a motel in Benalla Vic and we are looking at updating our bathroom/ensuites. I have been trying to get ideas for perhaps changing the layout of the room just slightly, to bring it into the 2000s. I am wanting to find a gallery of pix for some ideas, but with no luck so far. Does anyone know of any such site that may have something like that. I have spent a fair amount of time so far looking around net, but mostly just end up with companies who DO renovations but who don't have much of a gallery on their sites. I attempted to attached a cpl of pix in case anyone may have any fantastic ideas as well, however the file came up as being too big. So I will try again. But I can't find where to delete the attachment. Back to the subject though - we don't want anything particularly fancy, or with too much shelving etc. for ease of cleaning etc. however any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks, Cheers Re: Looking for Ideas - motel ensuite update / upgrade 2Aug 23, 2009 8:14 am Hi Mandy, A picture or plan would be really helpful.. if you upload the picture on a website somewhere you can put a link of the pictures into your post and then we can check it out. No doubt you will get some great advice from people here! 2fk Re: Looking for Ideas - motel ensuite update / upgrade 3Aug 23, 2009 8:25 am Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Looking for Ideas - motel ensuite update / upgrade 6Aug 23, 2009 1:36 pm I don't think you'd want to change the layout unless it really doesn't work, because of the cost. Have you thought of looking at other HOTEL websites for ideas? The two things that immediately leap out at me are the brick walls and the angled basin. That seems like a very long vanity with the basin pushed way up the end and around the corner! Is there anything at the other end of the vanity? Re: Looking for Ideas - motel ensuite update / upgrade 7Aug 23, 2009 4:11 pm I agree with Macy, if you can avoid changing the layout it will help you save on cost. What colour is the toilet? If it's white and in good nick then keep it. To bring this bathroom up to date you wouldn't really need to do much. I'd probably change the tiles behind the countertop to plain gloss white ones (this will be very cheap to do!). If you really really really hate the exposed brick wall then you can cover it but tbh I don't think it's really necessary. The benchtop looks to be in good condition so I'd suggest simply resurfacing it with another laminate (something like Sakkara Ivory from the laminex range) - you may want to square off the vanity rather than having the basin in the corner .. though your plumbing may restrict this. I'm not sure if you can remove the frame on the mirror, if not then simply paint it white. The basin looks to be in really good condition, so you could either have it resurfaced (white) or get a new one - but you'll need to think about the depth of the vanity as the benchtop is only 450mm deep. It's hard to tell from the pics but the taps look to be in good condition too so to save costs try and re-use them if you can. Some fresh white tiles in the shower area and a new shower screen with either white or aluminium trim will bring this bathroom into 2009 and last you another 20 years! 2fk Re: Looking for Ideas - motel ensuite update / upgrade 8Aug 23, 2009 7:18 pm Thanks for your ideas 2fk and Macy. We also have benchtops and cupboards in the bed/living area of the motel rooms which we have to consider in the update as well. The toilet bowl is white, but the cistern and lid is apricot, which is not too much of a problem. However wot do u think the cupboards might look like if we just put new color laminex tops on them. Our idea, and that of a guy who has given us a quote to simply replace everything we have, suggested that the bathroom benchtop be straight, without the corner kink. He reckons the fitters originally maybe had to fit the basin into the narrow width of the benchtop (and it didn't fit) so they angled the end to get more width. The plumbing outlet is actually positioned right under the middle of the bench, so goodness knows it prob cost more to pipe it over to the corner! So we r thinking the basin in the middle of the bench will be better. However we were considering a new laminate color perhaps with a leather-grain look about it, and a very light color that wd perhaps enhance the apricot color if we kept the kitchen area cupboards. I haven't looked at any sample colors yet to consider that tho. Anyway, here r a cpl of pics of our living/kitchen area cupboards that need to be incorporated into the general colorscheme of the room. Thanks again for your input. I hope the pictures work out properly again. They have not, so I will be trying again for a while, but I will post the text now. I am thinking we will prob put just a new colored laminex top with rounded edged on the tops, and changing door knob / handles. AND we then need to have new bedheads and bedside tables. Veeerry expensive all up. I think I have gotten the hang of putting up the pix.... Thanks for your patience. Yes this is a good idea it's more clean lined this way, no fuss. Yes in the centre However we were considering a new laminate color perhaps with a leather-grain look about it, and a very light color that wd perhaps enhance the apricot color if we kept the kitchen area cupboards. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Looking for Ideas - motel ensuite update / upgrade 13Aug 24, 2009 8:41 am I agree with Michelle too.. steer away from the leather grain look. Whilst I get it that this is a country motel, it will irk you (or your housekeeping staff) to keep it clean! I also agree that the sink should be moved to where the plumbing is ie in the middle. As the benchtop is only 450mm deep you'll need to think about what type of basin you put in there, you probably won't be able to reuse the current one as I expect that the basin you have is too deep hence why the original fitters went for the corner option. The cupboards (in the bedroom/kitchen) could easily be resurfaced with a flecked/flint laminate top and white doors with some nice handles. With regards to the desk.. hmm.. I think no matter which way you look at it, it's still apricot! This is probably what I would spend money on and get a new one, don't go overboard though.. something simple will do just fine. You can match this up with the new bedside tables you are thinking about. Now with regards to the bedhead.. go simple and easy to clean. Stay away from florals, prints and patterns as otherwise you'll be buying new bedheads before you know it. Realistically, what function to bedheads have? Depending on your room configuration you may not not even need one. And good news about the toilet, time to bring the bathroom into the year 2009 by removing the apricot toilet seat and putting a fresh, clean white one in its place. 2fk Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6138 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11833 |
