Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 04, 2007 10:48 pm Why are homes never fitted with urinals for the blokes?
There are some simple wall mounted units that could be fitted if the home owner chose to. Considering that blokes may use the dunny many more times for a quick sprinkle than the #2's, wouldn't it be a welcome addition to the ablutions? Would save all that stuffing around with toilet seats and the nagging that accompanies the issue. Ash. Re: A serious question! 3Jun 05, 2007 8:54 am Well considering the toilet is basically a urinal anyway (but one which both genders can use instead of only 1 of them) - why put another one in and take up more space in the bathroom?
I think they are also rather unattractive - it wouldn't be a selling point for me if I found a house with a urinal in the bathroom... in fact I'd probably go the other way However, it might be a reasonable idea if you wanted a small bathroom in the garage but didn't have the room for a full toilet, you could install a urinal there...... Fiona ![]() Re: A serious question! 4Jun 05, 2007 12:11 pm Totally fair comments there....
I'm not necessarily saying to put one in the bathroom, but one placed in a stategic position (like Fiona suggested) can have a lot of practical value. My main reason for making the comment was to get people thinking outside the square, as I don't think anyone has considered it. I like Michelle's signature, "dare to be different". Also, if any of you have seen around the typical toilet under a UV light, you will see how foul the area becomes due to us bloke's tendency to spray and splatter all around the place. Modern wall mounted urinals envelope the activity and contain much of this, so by keeping us out of the normal toilets, there could be a lot cleaner bathrooms etc. Ash. Re: A serious question! 6Jun 05, 2007 12:39 pm Maybe we could combine this thread with the "your dream garage" thread ? I would have thought if you're older than about 5, and cant get it in the toilet then you have some serious control issues!!!!! ![]() Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Instead of a urinal I think bathrooms should have a "UV inspection" light. Re: A serious question! 10Jun 05, 2007 2:45 pm Vanderlay, you would be surprised, no SHOCKED to see what accumulates.....
Here's a challenge for you and anyone else that's inclined...... Go to Bunnings and buy a 15 watt compact fluoro UV bulb. Plug it into a portable trouble light or lamp. At night time with other lights off, go and inspect around the dunny, especially up the walls. You'll see what I mean! Its not so much the aim into the bowl but the flicking afterwards that goes everywhere. ![]() Ash. Re: A serious question! 13Jun 05, 2007 3:08 pm LOL ![]() Maybe I'm just taking the ***, but no not really. The thing is (as I said before) I'd like to stimulate people to think about different ways to create their living environment. There is far too much sheep-like mentality where people just do what everyone else is doing. It doesn't matter a rats whether this idea appeals or not, but the act of considering something a bit 'weird' is a healthy exercise in my book. So, is there anything else that someone can think of that is not the norm, but has merit? Ash. Re: A serious question! 14Jun 05, 2007 3:34 pm ![]() So, is there anything else that someone can think of that is not the norm, but has merit? Ash. I couldn't agree more with you Ash, I am not a big fan of cleaning...being allergic to chemicals and all...but I am under no illusions regarding the cleaning needs in a domestic environment. Contemporary Kitchens and Bathrooms are woefully underdesigned when it comes to EFFECTIVE cleaning. Even wall mounted urinals still have drip marks on the floor (and probably the walls as well...maybe you could hang out in a few public toilets with your lamp?) If any one really needs to test this (who is living with a male above five years old in the house) try cleaning ONLY the inside of the toilet for a month or so, you won't even need to buy the UV lamp, just give the room a sniff... My objective is to have a kitchen that can be cleaned out with a high pressure hose and a bathroom that is cleaned by sealing a door and pressing a switch - the bathroom/toilet would be cleaned like the inside of a dishwasher (just have to remember to take the towels and the toilet paper out first). I know this concept already exists for public toilets - I saw my first one in Paris in the early nineties and later on in Australia as well... But I am convinced that the principle can be adapted to domestic applications, in one sort of refined form or another. If anyone is interested in funding and installing a prototype just get in touch! Re: A serious question! 16Jun 05, 2007 7:10 pm I been thinking of how to integrate a urinal, but mainly for the idea of saving water and using those desert stones that do not need to be flushed except once a day.
Or how about a tube that we pee into beside the dunny that does not require as much flushing. Or what about a composting toilet. ![]() Or a funnell in the wall that runs to the lemon tree ![]() Hey - my gran used to have a bed pan that she emptied every morning becaseu it was too far to walk at night to the downstairs flushing toilet. Steve Re: A serious question! 19Jun 05, 2007 7:54 pm I personally couldn’t think of anything worse, than to walk into a nice bathroom and see a urinal stuck right up there for all to see, saying “look at me, and guess what happens here?” NO THANKS.
At least with a toilet you can close the lid…..most of the times. The best place for a urinal is in a men’s loo in a pub or wherever with a door between it and the rest of us saying MEN ONLY! And yes the Lemon tree benefits greatly from the yellow liquid. A man’s job there I would say. I have a question while discussing the loo….do you think if they made a loo the size of a coal mining pit….men would actually get their aim? ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com It was the acratex, was putting the surplus paint etc in attic tonight and there was almost a full tub of it leftover. 13 4058 Question for people who build decks for a living: If a prospective client approached you for a deck build, & they had plans drawn & a building permit, would this make you… 0 5860 Yes, It is a BASIX requirement to have a mains water switching device.
