Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 19, 2009 12:13 pm I am loving the shampoo niche's I keep seeing all over the place, but they are not included in the plans we are probably going to go with. Are they easy to add to plans? Do they need a lot of changes structurally or is it all in the plaster? Do they cost much? Cheers Caz Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... Another thing to consider is if you are having feature tiles running vertically down the shower, what do you do in these niche parts. I have heard they can leak if not done properly but if they're lazy and that happens your likely to have leaks from shower anyway.. but im no professional Moved In!!! Next up Landscaping! I hope mine dont leak. To minimise the chances i made sure all the edges were stopped with waterproof compound and then sealed with a few coats of waterproofing. Also now that the tiles have been layed I will place silcon around the corners and not grount. Yes that is correct. Shampoo niches have to be fabricated and waterproofed with tremendous care as done by Borg, or alternatively use one of of the pre-formed "Shampoo Niches" that are guaranteed to be waterproof. They are very easy to add to the plan, structually with a steel frame house they need to add in another frame, so you have 2 frames. Mine were $200 each, and then the feature tile inside was $150 each. I think the look will definetly be worth this price. Re: Shampoo niche's - easy to add to plans?? 8Aug 26, 2009 10:44 pm we also forgot to add these, but spoke to our chippy who has left 600mm before 2 wall studs in the bathroom, otherwise it will be 300 or 400 x 400. They install this membrane stuff throughout your shower by law i think and that stops any water from getting into your walls. With anything, if done properly .. no problem. If you install this after a build then you just need to make sure you seal all gaps before re-tiling. I'd prefer to have the built in niches and was wondering if there was any other downside apart from having a poorly constructed one giving you water problems.
