Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 16, 2009 7:35 pm We thought this would be easy - it's a toilet, you sit on it, you finish your business, you leave! - but I think the moral of the story is that I can complicate just about anything ! We were going with a close-coupled number, which was around $500, but it wouldn't fit our existing plumbing in the house we are renovating. So we had to go a back-to-wall toilet instead - which upped the cost to around $650. It's made in Germany, has a quality slow-close seat, etc, etc.... Is this about the standard sort of toilet/price other people are doing? Just seems a lot for a toilet.... Re: How did you choose your toilet? 2Aug 16, 2009 8:05 pm My DW first picked a Corona unit at $1200 per bog Don't think so , gawn back to $600 per unit, I think this is reasonable. DW key point was that the bottom of the unit was easy to clean, so clean lines. * Are we there yet ? I had 3 or 4 to pick from that my builder uses and just picked the one that had the enclosed back (ease of cleaning) I can't remember what the buttons even looked like! I mean that it only has one flush, both the small flush and the big flush go down at the same time. I'm bit "pee-ed off.." and "loo-sing" faith in it.. Re: How did you choose your toilet? 7Aug 17, 2009 8:31 pm MagicJ We were going with a close-coupled number, which was around $500, but it wouldn't fit our existing plumbing in the house we are renovating. Is there not a close-coupled loo that will fit? We replaced a horrible old toilet with a shiny new close-coupled one in our old house, and there was quite a lot of leeway in the design for placement of the pan without moving existing plumbing. Maybe it's worth looking at a few other brands or models? Re: How did you choose your toilet? 8Aug 17, 2009 9:02 pm You are probably quite right, Kek. Unfortunately we ran out of time to shop round - we thought we had selected our toilets, you see, and at the last minute found out the waste pipe was too far out from the wall to fit the close-coupled one we had chosen . Loved those toilets too!!!! Then at the last minute, we had to grab one that would fit - we have ordered them now (they still take 10 working days or something to arrive, good old far-away-from-everything Tassie!!! ). Anyway, I suppose I am just looking for some too-late reassurance that we weren't ripped off. ....Especially as they were over our budget and now DH maybe won't let me have the heated towel rail I had set my heart on . They had just better be the best darn toilet I ever sat on, that's all I can say !!! Re: How did you choose your toilet? 10Aug 19, 2009 11:48 pm Took us days going round looking at loos.... its a minefield.... In the end chose a back to the wall - easy to clean and nice lines, but we both sat on it (not together) because some are just plain uncomfortable... also chose the soft close seat - nice idea.... cost about $500.00 which is fairly good for that style of loo... couldnt warrant spending up in 4 figures for a loo...... Re: How did you choose your toilet? 11Aug 25, 2009 8:00 pm i had to get the only reasonably priced one i could get to fit. our door hits our current toilet seat, so we had to get a small one that didn't stick out so far, and no way i'm spending a grand on a toilet, so we are just getting a fairly standard looking crappy toilet. Re: How did you choose your toilet? 12Aug 25, 2009 9:32 pm I sat down, grabbed a mag, pretended to occupy the room for 5 minutes, lit a match, and basically checked to see if it was a comfortable ride. I also checked to make sure the hinges on the seat work. so that if it is left up it is easy to put down. ’’Quondo Omni Flunkus Mortati ’’ If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy. After spending $400 on the kitchen flick mixer finance (the other half) would not let me spend big on the loo. But quickly realising that four ensuites and two powder-rooms meant an awful lot of toilets I soon started to rethink that thought. DH's only requirement was that he wanted soft closing lids, my must have was close to wall and no gaps for little fingers. Plus being a cheapskate I didn't want to spend a fortune. We ended up getting these ones from Bunnings and this week they were installed.
