I think because it’s NOT that bad, your eye immediately wants to improve it, because then it’d look great, whereas if it was just an abomination to the eye, you wouldn’t even bother. Lol. I’d paint it a cool cream / beige / stone colour all over, chuck the curtain, replace the toilet (not that expensive to actually buy a new toilet, but not sure how much installation costs *groan*) and get some tile paint. I’m not sure if it works for floor tiles, but you could at least do the wall tiles…just a more neutral, toned down colour.
