Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 06, 2009 7:44 pm We are remodeling our bathroom with a plumber that I am less than impressed with (but that is another story!)... We purchased our own fittings... Well today he put in our fittings... The spout for the basins (wall mounted) literally blew off the wall when he turned the water back on. First he tried to blame the water pressure. After my questioning he came back to me and said the water pressure was not the problem but the actual fittings. Apparently one did not have a "grub screw" and in the other the "grub screw" snapped off. He did show me a screw that had broken off in the spout. Now I have to go back to the company that I bought the items for and try and get new "grub screws". I am not sure if the plumber did something wrong or if the spouts where faulty? Can anyone assist. I have this feeling that the bathroom company that I bought the fittings from may not replace them saying we did something wrong and then I am left with having to buy two more spouts. And what happens if I do and the same thing happens. These were not cheap...over $200 each... It is so hard when you have no idea what you are talking about and you don't have a trust in the "professionals". Re: Major problem with Bathroom fixtures - Please help! 2Aug 06, 2009 8:10 pm Considering I sell tapware, I have never heard of a pushfit style of tap ( I assume pushfit with the grubscrew comment) doing that, however, it could be a genuine fault. Any reasonable supplier would simply send an after sales service request to the manufacturer which could possibly mean a service plumber will actually come out to you to rectify the problem, or the company may just send the replacement grub screws. Its odd that both spouts are the issue though. Back to a pushfit tap. There is a bush that you screw onto the thread that comes out of the wall. You then push the rest of the spout over that and secure it with a grubscrew. IS that what you have? Or are you happy to tell me what you actually bought? Maybe check the filters in the areator of the spout also, just to check it didn't end up blocked if he hasn't cleared the lines first. Possumchops Now the proud owner of 3.7acres of Serenity. One spout apparently was missing the screw...the plumber knew this yet still put it in! The second spout the screw broke off in the spout when it blew off the wall. Hopefully I can get a screw for the first spout and either they can take the broken off screw out of or replace the second spout quickly. I just want this bathroom to be done......... And I still need to do my second bathroom... Re: Major problem with Bathroom fixtures - Please help! 4Aug 06, 2009 8:27 pm Thanks for your help possumchops. I appreciate it. I am so stressed today. These are my fixtures: http://www.spservices.com.au/Product/Ta ... 67740.html Re: Major problem with Bathroom fixtures - Please help! 5Aug 07, 2009 6:27 am Not a brand I've ever dealt with so can't even give you advise re the after sales service. Still check the aerator for blockages because something had to cause the grub screw being sheered off. When you go back to your supplier, don't tell them if you did find it blocked up. If its clean I still don't understand how that grub screw was broken off, unless it was damaged before hand. I'm not sure you should disclose that the plumber thought it was your water pressure as well. If it is water pressure, you may need to insert a flow restrictor at the other end of the spout where the thread is rather than in the aerator. As you can imagine, with the restrictor in the aerator the pressure builds up in the spout so I guess that could potentially be the issue as well. (if that was erratic, sorry, I was thinking and problem solving as I typed) As for the one missing, just tell them its missing. Possumchops Now the proud owner of 3.7acres of Serenity.
