Re: Free standing baths 4Jul 06, 2009 8:21 pm I have just put a freestanding bath in our newly reno'd bathroom. Its literally been in for a week. Its exceptionally deep (590mm), my wife loves it. Easy to install too as it doesn't have to be checked into the studs and waterproofed etc. I'll get some pics soon The bath is the Marbletrend Highback 1760 Re: Free standing baths 5Jul 06, 2009 8:34 pm I don't have a freestanding bath in my home (or any bath for that matter) but I have always loved the range from Apaiser. http://www.apaiser.com.au/baths.html They are made from stone composite materials similar to the kitchen benchtop stone. I cannot tell you about the prices but I imagine they are not cheap. We have their Ellesse vanity and the quality is superb. I would love one of their baths in the green Irish Moss stone as it would be a huge feature in the right bathroom. Re: Free standing baths 6Jul 06, 2009 8:35 pm Thanks Duke! Cant wait to see pics Any reason you chose freestanding over a normal bath? Its a gorgeous bath, interested to see what colour combo you went with Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: Free standing baths 8Jul 06, 2009 9:33 pm We are having one Bam in our main ensuite. The only thing I would say is that IMO they do better not up against a wall as it would make it too hard to clean around and under. At least with a bath in a hob you only have to clean the hob. Ours will be slap bang in the centre of our ensuite with around 1m on every side - so I can walk right around and clean it from every angle. Ours is a spa bath with heater / radio / touch control panel / pull out hand held shower as well as integrated taps. That is another thing you need to take into account - they áll don't come with integrated tapware so you either have to have it against a wall to have the spout mounted on the wall or alternatively buy a floor mounted tap mixer which are all pricey - didn't see one below $600-$800 for just the tap. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Free standing baths 9Jul 06, 2009 9:36 pm We're getting an Aqva freestanding double bath in our ensuite. Sarah LOVES it! That said, the non spa version (the one we're getting) is around $3,500 supplied and fitted. Bath is burgandy outside, ivory indide Re: Free standing baths 11Jul 06, 2009 9:45 pm Thanks kyton Hubby has said something about the intergrated tapware, and this is what he prefers so its what we will be on the look out for. And luckily, the plan is to stick the thing in the middle of the bathroom as I hadnt even thought about the issue of cleaning around it if it was near the wall - good thinking!! Although on the two narrow sides we probably will only have 50cm or so... Ill need to pull out the scale ruler again me thinks! But it should be alright Mind if I ask what bath you have got? GSK, Aqva has some beautiful products! Do you have any pictures by any chance? Duke, sounds gorgeous! I know you are planning yours for the ensuite but I just want to point out to other people considering them for main bathrooms that I don't think they are all that compatible with young children. We stayed at a friends who had a freestanding bath and the kids splashed water out all sides and after-bath cleanup was a pain to say the least! If the bath is placed close to a wall it could be impossible to reach to dry off all the splashes creating a real mould headache. Kylie Re: Free standing baths 14Jul 12, 2009 1:30 pm Hi Kylie We are actually planning it for our main bathroom. I understand what you're saying in terms of children, but I have a big kid as a husband so I cant see it being much worse then what it is now Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Re: Free standing baths 15Jul 12, 2009 7:02 pm Originally I wanted a clawfoot bath (Caroma I think makes them) but the builder was going to charge too much, so I ended up going with a similar style built in bath (same depth etc). I never really thought about splashing, guess you'd have to keep a mop in the bathroom! But kids plus baths equals splashing either way, only difference with a freestanding is that you have to wipe the floor up whereas with a hob you have to wipe the hob surrounds and maybe still the floor! I imagine most freestanding baths would be relatively deep, so you would hope that would equate to less splashing on the floor, depending on how much you fill the bath of course. Re: Free standing baths 18Jul 15, 2009 11:13 pm And the Apaiser Lunar 1740mm if you dont mind? I would really like a freestanding bath that has built-in plumbing (if that makes sense?) rather than a spout from the ground or what not, but everything I like has a spout from the ground!
