Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 22, 2009 11:08 am Hi All, I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a glass shelf for the shower besides reece. They are awful expensive. Im also interested in what others have used. Those hang on the shower head "shower cadys" are not an option, Im after something more permanent. Thanks! Re: Shower Shelf 3Jun 22, 2009 1:06 pm I purchased a nice glass shelf from bunnings that screws into the wall. Nice chome ends on it too. It was approx $30 from memory. I wasnt looking for shelfs at E&S so I will go back and have another look. Also would anyone recommend a certain style, corners vs flat shelf. Re: Shower Shelf 5Jun 22, 2009 8:19 pm We went with shelves from the Everloc range (http://www.everloc.com.au/) Happy with them so far. May end up putting something permanent in eventually, but I quite like the idea of being able to move them when needed and no damage to the tiles Re: Shower Shelf 6Jun 24, 2009 9:03 pm I got all our taps, towel rails, shelves, etc etc etc at Gotleibs in Dandenong Road Caulfield. They were way cheaper than anywhere else i found. They are really busy so hard to get service and also only open Mon-Frid, but the prices made it worth these inconveniences as I saved hundreds. As for the shower shelf I got a brewsters one i think, really long and glass with a rail around it so the shampoo and stuff won't fall out. Builder is installing it tomorrow. Re: Shower Shelf 7Jun 24, 2009 9:36 pm We just went yesterday to a place called Tile Importers in Oakleigh Melbourne- http://www.tileimporter.com.au/index.cgi They have single shelves / double shelves with chrome ends - We got the single ones cos they were long and suited what we were after The single shelves were 15$ double shelves were 20$ and another type 30$ We too looked at reece and bunnings and online - reece was way over our budget Can get a photo photo of it un-assembled if anyone wants Re: Shower Shelf 10Jun 28, 2009 3:13 pm Which type of shelf is right really depends on what you want to use it for. Some are made for showers, others are simply "vanity shelves". The major difference is often in the quality and thickness of the glass. In a shower, you want toughened glass, and I'd be going for slightly rounded corners - you don't want pointy bits anywhere near you when you're wet and naked. If you're going to put soap on your shelf, some have a depression at one end, and drain holes. A flat shelf will see your soap sliding straight off. A metal rail around it might stop that, but it may not be intended for use in a wet environment, so you could end up with rust. You could get a separate soap dish, but I'm trying to avoid a cluttered look with just one streamlined and relatively invisible piece. I'm still looking for the perfect shelf seven months after handover. I've found exactly what I want, but husband says a big fat NO to the price. Everything that's within his idea of reasonable is either incredibly ugly or not intended for use in a shower. Re: Shower Shelf 11Jun 28, 2009 8:32 pm The shelf we bought (2 shelves) are glass, for the corner, rounded edges, stainless steel rail around each shelf. Soap holder will be on the rail for the shower head. Reno started Friday (stripped bare, walls off, floor gone, all that was left was the ceiling, studs &bearers !) Re: Shower Shelf 12Jun 29, 2009 8:48 am We found one at bourne bathroom center. They had a sale on the weekend. We purchased twin corner shelves, they come on a rail with a single mounting point. I wasnt so keen on this feature but im sure it will be strong enough to hold up some shampoo. Also yes I did discover that some shelves would just be impractical for in the shower, either stick out too far or have dangerous edges. I also went for the corner shelf as I imagined banging my elbows on the other style every day which would make me angry indeed. Thankyou all for your ideas and information! I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
