Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 14, 2009 7:39 pm Hi All, First time poster and hoping for some expert advice. Have been talking about renovating the bathroom for a few years now and have taken the plunge. Our home is a post war timber home which was originally on 1m high concrete stumps. I has since been elevated 3m on steel posts, and we have now enclosed downstairs. Our bathroom must have been done some 20 odd years ago. The floor boards have seen some water damage and currently water proofing and lino are down. This work happenned about 10 yrs. ago (we have only been here for 5). I have just dropped to a 4 day week, which gives me more time, but less cash, so the reno will be relying on me a little bit more than what I expected, but I'll be getting tradies into to do the hard bits. We are taking everything out and starting from scratch. Any ideas on what the main stages are and what I should do in what order? After a little reading, I've put together in my mind what the plan is: 1. Demolish what's in there (vanity, bath, shower cubicle, tiles, probably the wall sheeting also) 2. Re-route the plumbing to the new locations 3. Wall sheeting, and floor sheeting (for tiles) 4. Water proofing 5. Install spa/bath & basins 6. Install shelf storage/rails/accessories Re: N00b - Bathroom Reno 2Jun 14, 2009 8:00 pm Hi DonnyMack, I am going through a first time bathroom reno right now too, and I've been watching the builder VERY carefully! This is what he has done so far (in order): 1. Demolish current bathroom - remove fixtures, fittings, tiles, walls etc. 2. Moved plumbing to new locations 3. Put up new walls 4. Waterproofed floor and shower area 5. Concrete floor laid (Screet? Pardon spelling!) He hasn't done this yet but is about to.. 6. Waterproof over the concrete (we are currently waiting for it to dry) 7. Installing Basin and Bath 8. Tiling wall and floor 9. Install shower screen, mirrored cabinet, ceasarstone top 10. Fixtures and fittings 2fk Re: N00b - Bathroom Reno 3Jun 15, 2009 5:41 pm hey there i actually renovated my bathroom a couple months ago as well.. it was also about 20+ years old (gosh!). i did some of the stuff myself that i knew how to do, but i found that some other things were better off being handled by professionals. saved me a lot of headache. if u have a smaller budget i'd recommend Renovation Boys (renovationboys.com.au), located in sydney (these are the guys i used to help me renovate). just an amazing job really, fantastic result! i also used their website for a bunch of tips when i was doing all the diy stuff. highly reccommended! good luck with your renovation! c Re: N00b - Bathroom Reno 4Jun 18, 2009 2:11 pm I am planning to renovate our bathroom maybe next month. How does the renovation process been going? My bathroom does not have any problem but I wanted a new look. What do you think the duration it would take to complete them all? I mean the regular time duration.
