Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 11, 2009 10:59 am Hi there, We are at the tiling stage right now and in a dilemma on how high to tile. Through our builder, we are going till Ceiling for all 3 showers, but the reast of the bathroom walls, toilet and Lauundry is only upto the skirting levels. Does it make sense to spend additional dollars to have all teh walls tiled to teh ceiling or should we stick with the paint for other walls. Bit confused Also a quote for doing the tiles (just labour component for all the walls) is close to $50 per sq m. Any suggestions/recommendations more than welcome. Re: Tiling height in Bathroom, Toliet, Powder Room and Laundry 2Jun 11, 2009 11:01 am There's a couple of threads on this... and opinion is split over which way to go. So you might end up more confused! Hang on I'll find the thread for you. I don't know if it will be much help. viewtopic.php?f=21&t=14755&hilit=public+convenience And another about general height of tiling in wet areas viewtopic.php?f=21&t=3705&hilit=+tiling+height I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I used to have a full head of hair when I started construction. In between I have had my first baby (that meant some loss of hair) but building this house takes the cake...Have lost more sleep and hair due to this... I am lost again and none too wiser from this posting... Hope that I have a nice dream that tells me what to do and I will follow the path!! Re: Tiling height in Bathroom, Toliet, Powder Room and Laundry 5Jun 11, 2009 4:39 pm In the end I went floor to ceiling in the ensuite and main bathroom, in one powder room I went ... ummmmm chest height, my chest in the separate toilets I also went "chest" height. I can tell you what "chest" height is when I go home if you are interested, actually a bit below chest height . I love the floor to ceiling look, it's very clean. I do love the floor to ceiling look with tiles, but it is something we never budgeted for in the begining. Now we will probably go with Floor to ceiling in ensuite and main bathroom. As for Toilets, we will leave them as it is and for Laundry, we might (still a might) go for my chest high (I am 6 feet!!). Will get a quote for labour and see how we go in buying the tiles from our tiler. Powder room downstairs is 1.4 m high tiling. Finally decided on something and stuck with it. Sometimes we just gotta get rid of unwanted stress and make a decision!!!! btw - I currently have a full head of hair even after two kids, but I can kiss it all goodbye very soon as its already starting to fall out and we still 3-4 weeks away from construction of our new home!!!! The good thing is that finally after 20 months of signing the cotract, we have our inspection on 9/07. FINALLY Re: Tiling height in Bathroom, Toliet, Powder Room and Laundry 10Jul 06, 2009 9:24 pm Well in my oppinion only, it looks cheap not to have the tiles go all the way. I am tiling all bathrooms fully as it looks classy and not unfinished. Your building a brand new house, you should make it look nice and the bathrooms are a big factor in a home. Re: Tiling height in Bathroom, Toliet, Powder Room and Laundry 12Jul 06, 2009 10:36 pm I went full tiling in the ensuite, and to the ceiling only in the shower of the main bathroom. Didn't even bother for the toilets as I dont plan on splashing water everywhere in that room. Re: Tiling height in Bathroom, Toliet, Powder Room and Laundry 13Jul 07, 2009 7:54 am Looking at Toilets that have tiles till ceiling reminds me of Public Loos I would not want to have that feeling in my home Skirting only in Toilets was good for us. I am not having a Powder Room or a room just with a toilet other than the outside one next to the pool, which i haven't thought how I will tile that one, but most likely tiles all the way. My architect informed us that all architectually designed homes he has done have fully tiled bathrooms and laundry's! So we are going with that. Althoug I have seen many half tiled bathrooms in this forum and they look nice too. Everyone has different opinons and likes the look of different things and then also expenses come into mind when building a home. Its just my opinon that a brand new home should have gorgeous fully tiled bathrooms. Looking on realestate.com.au, I found that all new homes I clciked on have fully tiled bathrooms (most were included in the paragraph outlining the house as fully tiled bathrooms as a feature).....such as these gorgeous ones Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I will most definately be paying the extra little bit to tile all my 3 bathrooms and toilet outside. Re: Tiling height in Bathroom, Toliet, Powder Room and Laundry 16Jul 07, 2009 11:59 am Helyn Oh well, I am quite happy with my cheap unfinished looking bathrooms with tiles to shower screen height Good for you Helyn mohit Looking at Toilets that have tiles till ceiling reminds me of Public Loos I would not want to have that feeling in my home Skirting only in Toilets was good for us. .....and I am totally in love with my not-so-public Public Loo Re: Tiling height in Bathroom, Toliet, Powder Room and Laundry 17Jul 07, 2009 2:02 pm Well sorry but my kids' ensuites are only having standard height tiling. We are having 2m high tiling in our ensuite but the cost to do all 4 ensuites plus the 2 powder rooms was way too expensive. So Helyn I will be with you enjoying my "cheap" looking bathrooms however since my house I am sure is costing more then a lot of others it won't be cheap in my eyes (and really can't give a toss what others think ) Some things are worth waiting for. Its your house and you can do whatever you think looks better Obvisously money is not an issue if your house is more than the average 400k to be built so good luck with your bathrooms and tiles .\ Infact a house down my street was bought 3months ago for about 800k. The guys reonvated it and I was speaking with the agent who said the first thing they did was to tile the wet areas fully to be in line with todays modern new homes (his words, not mine), then change the kitchen to a galley typ with the island. At Auction the highest bid was $1,150,000 (nice little profit!). http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rs ... 1246943758 DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Fine to have your own opinion but perhaps you should off posted it more tactfully Re: Tiling height in Bathroom, Toliet, Powder Room and Laundry 20Jul 07, 2009 4:26 pm Helyn Quote: I was speaking with the agent who said the first thing they did was to tile the wet areas fully to be in line with todays modern new homes (his words, not mine), Mandystoj, the agent would say that, he was selling the house, so he would say whatever had been done was the greatest, modern thing Realistically, it would make very little difference to the price - obviously a house selling for that price has a lot more features, location etc than just tiles to ceilings in bathrooms I have been in many new houses and most are not tiled full height, its a personal preference thing, nothing else. Fine to have your own opinion but perhaps you should off posted it more tactfully Yeah true. But like I have read in the rules thread, people get offended from other peoples opinions and then it can get ugly. MY opinion was what I wrote above....that is the reason why I wouldn't do it and my reasoning for answering the first post with fully tiling the bathroom. I didn't mean to offend anyone . And maybe it is central to certain areas as I have never set foot in a predominately new house that has bathrooms that are not tiled fully in many many years (apart from my siter in-laws, which once again could be due to demographics). You are not tiling your toilet all the way due to it reminding you of a public toilet...I will be tiling it due to the way it looks half tiled not being the type of finish I prefer. My architect has said that he doesn't know any homes that are custom who dont tile all the way....he suggested that project homes are the ones that would be half tiled as it costs alot more to upgrade. I tend to agree, in most cases. On realestate site I am struggling to find a new home that isn't fully tiled. I have dound this display home that the bathroom isn't tiled, it looks very nice but would nicer if the tiles went the whole way http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rs ... 1246947731 Simple fact is some people it isnt just personal preference($$) but most people either dont like the look of a fully tiled bathroom or the look of a half tiled bathroom so its their choice for whatever reason. We can agree to disagree that for sure. DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Looking at some of the designs on websites, they are all selling very similar products.
