Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 03, 2009 2:32 pm Hi! I'm after a look that feels more luxurious, almost spa like for our ensuite. Anyone used dark tiles in the bathroom to get that feeling? Or is it too much to keep clean (soap scum/water marks etc). This is the layout of our bathroom. We are also having a niche in the walls behind the vanities, one for each side. I want to put some kind of mosaic tile in the niche and then maybe have a mosaic feature down the centre of the shower, in the opening. I'm guessing we could get away with a lighter colour tile in general with a darker feature tile to get the same effect. Love Kristi Living the dream. 4 horsey acres in the country. Re: Dark tiles in ensuite? 5Jun 03, 2009 3:13 pm Hello Kristi, We are going to be putting a black marble-like tile on our ensuite floor and the vanity in a laminate of similar colouring with an off white tile for the walls and black mosaic feature tiles. I hope it doesn't turn our bad hehe. Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside ! Re: Dark tiles in ensuite? 6Jun 03, 2009 3:14 pm Hi Kristi, I have used dark brown tiles in our ensuite....we have only been in the house since Saturday and I have noticed water marks and other particular *cough* marks are very obvious, I haven't used enough soap to accumulate any scum yet. However, I wouldn't change it as it does feel very cosy and luxurious and I am willing to put up with it. Re: Dark tiles in ensuite? 7Jun 03, 2009 6:00 pm We used dark colours for our bathroom and ensuite. I don't have great photos, and it's still dirty, but I thought I'd post them up anyway just for more ideas or what it looks like.
http://i417.photobucket.com/albums/pp253/mtbpebble/IMG_0702.jpg I think it accentuates the fact that the main bathroom (pictured) isn't huge by any standards, but considering the ensuite is open and seen from the main bedroom directly, the colours would be kind on the eye (if one in hungover ). Seriously though I like the final result, although sometimes I had wondered if we should have chosen such dark walls, but as you can see we have a large windown anyway. What style basin are you having? And I think if it's in our ensuite it's only DH and I that are going to see marks. Do you have any pictures? I'm probably going to go more black/grey rather than brown, but would still love to see how your darker tiles look. Love Kristi Living the dream. 4 horsey acres in the country. I think a bathroom doesn't necessarily need to feel spacious, hence why i'm thinking dark colours too. Our ensuite isn't going to be very large! Would love to see yours once it's all completed . Love Kristi Getting close now, the cleaner should be coming this week. The ensuite is quite large (compared to the bathroom, exactly the same colour scheme. I'm very glad we decided on the border tiles though, it would be very plain without them. Re: Dark tiles in ensuite? 11Jun 03, 2009 7:52 pm We've got very dark tiles in our ensuite. But only on the floor and as skirting. The wall tiles are the reverse. White but with a light grey line in them. They are actually black but in these "pre cleaned" pictures look grey. Do you have any feature tiles to match the dark tiles in your shower? Love Kristi Living the dream. 4 horsey acres in the country. What's the next project??? Re: Dark tiles in ensuite? 14Jun 03, 2009 9:14 pm No kristi we opted not to have any feature tiles. just the 2 contrasting tiled areas. Our bench cabinet in the ensuite has "polar white' doors and front and a black marble look laminate on the top. We decided it would be too difficult to find something to match it and we didn't want to detract from the marble effect by adding in a feature as well. We will be adding a plain white , mirrored wall cabinet after handover to our ensuite. We also did 2 rows of tiles above the benchtop in the ensuite so that the tiles will finish where the wall cabinet will start. I would really have liked to have had a feature tile in the main bathroom which is much plainer and finished in creams/light browns but we decided to keep them both plain instead. Our basin/s will be the standard white china Caroma Centro. Seeing your pictures kexkez, it looks like our tiles are similar, if not the same : Alpi black for floor and templi grey for wall. Our feature is nero maro mosaic, black marble laminex vanity with dove grey polyrey doors. Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Does it have that grey line running through it? Wall tiles Carara Grey ( you could also get these with a built in feature bit) I'm very curious about where your tiles came from. I've had several people ask me about the black floor ones. The carara grey tiles seem easy to find. BUT then I did see another ( black) tile that was similiar in our other tile choice place. i didn't like it quite as much though. Re: Dark tiles in ensuite? 17Jun 04, 2009 12:19 am Hi kexkez. Yes that is the name of the tile (black one) she wrote it in short hand so I couldn't remember the whole name. We are getting them from Trend Ceramics. Re: Dark tiles in ensuite? 18Jun 04, 2009 12:29 am well it's good to know someone else stocks them. Yes they are made by Kimgres. I notice Trend mention they stock Kimgres tiles. I chased up some info for someone else before. Found this on the Trend ceramics web site. Here's some of our lovely floor tiles. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Oh our basins are the caroma centros as well. It was an upgrade for us. Warning : We hadn't seen one in "real life" from the website they looked quite deep. All you see is a side view. BUT they aren't a deep sink at all. Because they have ( well ours does) an overflow pipe they have a double , hollow kind of hull. ( Imagine one bowl stacked inside another) I was a bit disappointed with them because from the drawing I'd expected them to be deeper. BUT they still are lovely basins. The have a funny drainage thing in them.. It doesn't doesn't pop up. At first glance they look like a built in plug but it's not. The little plug that goes with them is pretty much a completely flat piece of plug. I think dark wall tiles would make the room look a bit small. We have dark chocolate brown on the floor in our ensuite with a white wall tiles and a border tile with brown in it. In the spare bathroom we have mauve (purple) floor tiles and again the white with a silver style border tile. I would try and upload some photo's for you but for some reason they wont upload. We have a very similar style bathroom to yours. Amy and Mitch Just married!!!
