In the rental I had in Brisbane they had stone and that wasnt a problem either. The only difference I found in bathrooms and kitchens is, with stone it feels (obviously) a lot harder when you place things ie dishes on there and it is a lot noisier when you do this. I prefer Laminex for my benchtops because of this as when serving meals etc the kitchen had a lot of clanging noises with the stone, Laminex seemed to absorb a lot of the noise.
