Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 22, 2009 11:16 pm What do you think of double vanities? They appear to be popular and I was thinking of going down that track but am now starting to question whether I need them or not. Re: Double vanities 2May 22, 2009 11:20 pm We will have double vanities but our house is yet to be built. But I've lived in a house with double vanities and its so much better coz I can use my side and he can use his side! Sandarra Facebook Group Re: Double vanities 4May 22, 2009 11:32 pm Our house isn't built yet either, but we're having double vanities in the ensuite as per the display. Not that we chose them as such, it's just the way the ensuite comes. I'm not for or against... I used to think they were pointless and look weird. But you see them in EVERY display nowadays that they've just become the norm. I'm not phased either way. Geez I'm not very helpful am I? Re: Double vanities 5May 22, 2009 11:48 pm We are currently renting a one bathroom unit and absolutelly hate it and wish we had double vanities! However, in our new house we will have three bathrooms and probably won't need double vanities but are still getting them for the ensuite. I just think it's a lot more convenient, especially when brushing teeth hehe Re: Double vanities 6May 23, 2009 12:11 am I'm not sure. I think I would like a double vanity if I had a big enough en suite but I'm seeing them in display homes squeezed into spaces where it would not actually be practical or comfortable for both to be used at the same time, or they take up wall space that would be better used for adequate towel rails. Re: Double vanities 7May 23, 2009 12:19 am I look in a lot of new houses here, some have double vanities in ensuite and some do not - so I wouldnt quite say they are the norm. Although of course they are very common now. I'm going against the grain here - we dont have a double vanity, although our benchtop in ensuite is probably wide enough to fit 2 basins, so we could of changed plan to do this but didn't bother. As DH and I are both shift workers and start work different times, the morning rush is not an issue, we dont have a great need to use 2 basins at same time, and I rarely wear makeup so Im not at the vanity for ages - anyway I actually like using the bathroom by myself - likewise we do not have a double shower, again, the time factor is not an issue and I dont really want to shower with him anyway Re: Double vanities 8May 23, 2009 12:22 am Helyn I look in a lot of new houses here, some have double vanities in ensuite and some do not - so I wouldnt quite say they are the norm. I must be very old fashioned Re: Double vanities 10May 23, 2009 7:49 am We been in our house 1 week I love the double vanities I can be over my side getting ready to go out and DH can have a shave etc without getting in my way! Before I always used to be the one to have to go and get ready first, now we get ready together I luvvvvvvvvvv my ensuite Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Double vanities 12May 23, 2009 1:02 pm Double basins was a must for our new house when we got the chance to design whatever we wanted. We always seem to be brushing teeth at the same time morning and night and constantly fighting over the basin where we are now. Really looking forward to my own basin! ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through! Re: Double vanities 13May 23, 2009 3:45 pm Originally did have them in my plan as a must have...but on reflection, actually realised I wanted more bench space, not two basins! DH and I are never in there at the same time either .... and two basins means more cleaning! Stila BK1 Build Thread The best place to talk about sport Re: Double vanities 15May 23, 2009 4:22 pm a) you have to have enough space; and b) you have to consider whether you really need them. If they're not going to be used, then why spend the extra money? Ours are a godsend. My husband has a bad habit of coming in when I'm using the basin and announcing thet he needs to brush his teeth NOW...and that if I don't immediately make way, I'm "making him late" Maybe if he got up on time.... Two basins, no problem. Our ensuite is the size of a small aircraft hangar, so no dramas fitting them in. Re: Double vanities 17May 23, 2009 6:32 pm By default my house has 1 basin but as part of an upgrade I'm getting a double in the ensuite, I wouldn't have changed it myself, 1 is enough 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Re: Double vanities 19May 23, 2009 10:24 pm it's not the issue of sharing the bathroom at the same time but not having enough space for all DW's stuff ’’Quondo Omni Flunkus Mortati ’’ If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy. Stila BK1 Build Thread The best place to talk about sport Re: Double vanities 20May 23, 2009 11:17 pm Our house will have double basins in both the ensuite and the main bathrooms but that was the design, we didn't need to add them. At first we had changed the main bathroom to have only one basin (As I didn't want to have to clean 4 basins for only 2 bathrooms) but then everyone convinced me that if they were included in the price to leave the 2 basins as when we had kids they wouldn't need to fight over the basin when brushing their teeth (like hubby and me do right now, so can't wait to get the double...)
