Handover - Aug 10 Re: Double vanities 42Oct 16, 2009 9:30 am I just stumbled across this topic and thought I'd put my 2¢ worth in. We have been living with a single bathroom/single basin (very old and crappy) for the last 21 years, the rental has an almost identical bathroom (because it's next door to our build) invariably the are either 2 or 3 people wanting to brush their teeth in the morning or before going to bed at the same time so we will be glad of the twin basins in the ensuite, we probably wished we had also included them in the other bathroom so the kids don't fight over the basin too. On the double shower thing, I don't really get this, besides the "odd" time of showering together in years gone by, I figure the water pressure would be lessened as well, seems like a waste of money to me! Re: Double vanities 43Oct 17, 2009 12:18 pm We had a double shower in our rental and i hated it. i see enough of my husband as it is As for the original question - We also had a double vanity but with two basins on a long vanity. It was really annoying as there wasnt much bench space and his stuff would come ovr my side and vice versa. This time we are having two separate 900mm vanities with a 900mm bench with drawers for extra towels/soap etc in between. That way we have my stuff, his stuff and shared stuff. Geez I should have just built another ensuite... Good point, Vid. It seems to me that if my beloved and I had a sudden urge to shower together, we'd be close enough to use the same shower head... I wish I had a hand-held shower as well as my fixed shower head though. Not to share, just for meeeee.... Handy for hair-washing and so on. Oh yes thats another thing - not only is the water pressure affected but the water temp. I would get annoyed when hubby adjusted his taps as it would affect my water temp Re: Double vanities 47Oct 19, 2009 3:21 pm We are having double vanities in kids b/room and in ensuite. We are also now having a double shower. Main reason I think it will be handy is for those times when you need to comb the nits out of childs very long hair in shower - gets quite cold, also when child spews all over you can both get clean at same time. Ah kids - gotta love em. I'm also looking forward to having my own soaps and shampoos. It only cost us an extra $300 for plumbing so I figured not that much more money for those times when you really need it. 2011 Home Sweet Home Handover 03 September 2010 PCI 27August 2010 Plumber 20August 2010 Electrician 19August 2010 Painting 04 August 2010 Cabinets 13Jul2010 Lockup 23June Frame 20April slab 1Mar10 Re: Double vanities 48Oct 19, 2009 3:38 pm We seriously could not live without double vanities. We are always in the bathroom at the same time.....and we have a fixed shower head from the roof and a hand held one on the wall, so my precious hair doesn't get wet. DH likes to get his head wet every time. We haven't tried a tandem shower yet he would probably knock me out with his elbow, but his body would block the draft that's a definite plus Re: Double vanities 49Oct 19, 2009 3:49 pm We were having double vanities in both bathrooms, but now only in the ensuite. We thought double would be good in the kids bathroom as we will have 3 kids shortly, but as they are all boys, I doubt we'll need double basins after all lol. Nah, we just changed to a single one in the kids as the basins I wanted were going to take up pretty much all the bench. We are still having 2 in the ensuite and a double shower. We probably won't use the double shower often, but just to have the space when we do, and also if the kids have a shower together. Re: Double vanities 50Oct 20, 2009 12:15 pm Single for us. We are never in the the bathroom at the same time. You're in for a shock when they get to be teenagers. My middle boy gets up at 6:30am on school days, so he can get his hair just perfect before his brothers start demanding bathroom time from 7:15am onwards. We went through the same thing with the eldest. I still can't fathom how it takes so long..... I spend less time in front of the mirror. Oh well, they can just fight it out then lol Re: Double vanities 54Oct 22, 2009 10:27 am indi When we build our new home we are seriously looking at 3 basins in the main bathroom (3 daughters). Our ensuite will just have a single vanity, we've never had a problem in the past with one basin. We're doing a similar thing - two basins in the main bathroom to cater for two daughters (I can remember what I was once like ) & single in the ensuite - what does a man use a basin for other than washing hands after the loo? my DH shaves and brushes his teeth in the shower... Re: Double vanities 56Oct 29, 2009 5:59 pm At our house, which we are moving out of in 3 days!!!!! we have one sink in the only bathroom for 6 people!! I have kids trying to wash their hands in the kitchen sink while I peel potatoes and brushing their teeth at the kitchen sink, and on the days I work I have to get up at 5am just to get in the shower before the queue starts or I can't straighten my hair!! In our new house we will have 2 bathrooms 3 toilets and 4 basins, including a double in the ensuite, YAY!! I would have put a double in the kids bathroom but it doesn't fit Re: Double vanities 57Oct 29, 2009 6:03 pm This is why we are having ensuites in each bedroom The only place where there will be a double vanity is in our ensuite. Even the two powder rooms have their own single vanity. Should never be a reason that someone is screaming that they can't get to the vanity Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Double vanities 58Oct 30, 2009 4:08 pm I like them Our display house had the double vanity in the ensuite although we moved the double one to our main bathroom for the girls, That way they can do hair n makup etc at the same time they think its a gr8 idea! If it is only 2m long and has 2 sinks, it is a waste of space in my oppinion. I would rather more bench space than another sink. My ensuite vanity will be approx 3m long so I will most likely have 2 sinks I think. DA approved Waiting on a few more Builder's quotes. Re: Double vanities 60Oct 31, 2009 9:08 pm i have started to see the logic in having double basins as me and my husband get ready at the same time and we leave for work together. Also sharing the bathroom is spending more time by default. Besides I just have to work about having to clean only one bathroom and leave the second bathroom for occasional use. I’m in a similar position except I’m after sliding 3 stacking doors. I am on a second-story apartment of which the balcony would not adequately fit any bi-fold or… 5 16292 Current door width is approx 2700, looking to have double doors fitted 820-820. What size does the frame need to be before door jamb? Thanks 0 3587 |
