Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 14, 2009 7:09 pm Hello all, I'm new so be gentle! I'm a first-time renovator, completely gutting and renovating both the bathroom and kitchen in my late 1960's flat. My first question(s) is a simple one: I am looking for a vanity/shaving cabinet with integrated lighting. I am aware of mirrors with integrated lighting available at Bunnings and Beacon, but I can't find a unit with storage behind the mirror. I found some examples here, but I've never seen one in the flesh, nor found a supplier in Melbourne. The room is very small, as can be expected in a flat of that era, but I am obsessed with getting the lighting around the mirror right. I have thought about makeup lights around a regular mirror unit, but I am worried about the lights being 'behind' the unit, as I can't recess the cabinet into the solid brick walls! Has anyone used anything like this in their bathroom? Where did you source it? How much was it? Or am I better using bathroom lights like this (except with a light on either side of the mirror rather than one above) and building out the sides around the mirror to accommodate them? Thanks! Re: mirror cabinet with integrated lighting 2May 14, 2009 7:32 pm Looks like you’ve done your homework on this. I just Googled them, there’s lots out there, but not in oz. Have you tried bathroom suppliers? Otherwise that light from Beacon looks good, and probably the cheapest way to go. Build the shaving cabinets to suit, and then I have 2 "bedside" lights on flexible arms that hang over the top of the cabinet from each corner... The light is directed down and so is direct and reflected in the mirror to give a nice even light.. Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: mirror cabinet with integrated lighting 4May 16, 2009 8:05 pm When I went to IKEA they are introducing a new range. The display wasn't quite ready, but they had a mirrored cabinet. Exactly what we were after, so I took a photo. This may be suitable for you too. Not the best of photos, but at least gives you an idea. Plain, no handles. Just missed out on the old style on sale... I love the idea of what chuth77 has done, but prefer the look of something integrated on either side. At this point I'm actually thinking about building my own cabinet with a built up area either side of the mirror doors to build out where the lights will sit, so they're slightly proud of the cabinet and there is no shadow thrown across by the side of the cabinet.
