Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 13, 2009 1:44 pm Hi hi... was wondering if some of you would be able to provide some opinions on the design: a) File “Slide 1” dictates the measurements of my ensuite. The lines represent the walls. (b)File “Slide 2” is an example of what the builder has designed for us. Comments on the builder's design: (i) I would like a more open concept to the ensuite, especially for the wet area. (hence, I would not want the shower screen.) Possibly just a separating wall between the wet and the dry (ii) I would not mind a wall hung toilet in an open concept but my wife is concerned of the “smell” if one is in the toilet while one is showering at the same time. Would a strong exhaust fan above the wall hung toilet solve this issue? Or an enclosed area with a door is the only way? (iii) We would like to have double shower heads side by side. What is the ideal distance apart? I am constrained with a short width for the ensuite. An option is to do it diagonally. Not sure if that works? It needs to be thought carefully as two shower heads diagonally placed at the same distance would still be showering onto one person. (i.e. Pythagorean Theorem) I have tried moving the toilet and come up with a sample layout as attached. (File “Slide 3” ) This design will: (a) allow the toilet to be enclosed (so no smelly issues) (b) dedicated wet area (but still wondering if double showerheads is feasible. Concern will be trying to avoid wetting the tub whenever we shower. Drops of water on the tub is fine.. not to the extent that there’s a pool of water in the tub) (c) changing the vanity to a single but longer basin that accommodates both adults at one time. So the dry area can be reduced to accommodate a longer area for the shower. Based on your experience, would the vanity area be tight while considering its near to the door of the toilet? Whats the best way to situate the double showerheads? Or whats the best layout? Spa Bath is 1800mm x 800mm Please feel free to give your comments. Much appreciated! Flip from the laundry to the toilet... just so the toilet was closer to the opening so it's easier to access from the living areas. I'd also put a door on that opening. And your appliance cupboard in the kitchen. The shelves are so far back I reckon you'd struggle to access the stuff in the corner near the alfresco wall. Apart form that... it's almost perfect! Can I just ask a question? I notice you will have an internal window from the theatre to the studio. Will that be a conventional window or is it to be custom made? I have a similar scenario in my soon to be built home and I'm throwing around ideas. Also I love, love, love the area between the living and the theatre... will it be a fernery?? I'm mentally moving in! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Ensuite advice.... 6May 15, 2009 3:59 pm joles Wow! What an awesome plan! I'm mentally moving in! - yup! i totally agree with you. thanks for bringing up th etoilet n laundry flip. - the builder did mention about the appliance cupboard and proposed to have a recess in the masterbedroom to narrow the shelf space in the appliance cupboard. - i am unsure what the builder will be providing for the window between the Ht room and the studio as i'm still in drawing stages. Yet to contract and do prestart. - i would like a zen garden with bamboos between the living and the HT room Building in Harvest Lakes, Atwell (Perth) status: design phase with builder Re: Ensuite advice.... 7May 15, 2009 4:06 pm I hope you're going to stick around championboxer! This will be a build to follow. Maybe start another thread with your floorplan in "building a new home" section? It may get missed in here in the bathroom section. Although I'm struggling to see how it could be improved, it's fantastic. Also.... were you a champion boxer?? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Ensuite advice.... 8May 15, 2009 4:09 pm I agree, it looks like a great plan! Are you really going to have seating for 8 in your master bedroom? Also.... were you a champion boxer?? ahaha... i will definitely stick ard as there are alot to learn from you guys... especially since i am a first home owner... the reason i placed my query here is i am stuck with the bathroom design... i like to have double showerheads but undsure how i am able to place them since i prefer them to be side by side... nope.. never a boxer.. Are you really going to have seating for 8 in your master bedroom? Not that there's anyhting wrong with that thanks... glad that this plan looks fine with you guys... nah.. definitely not having 8 seaters... the builder drew that to "fill the space". i wanted the larger space so i can have my own retreat +Tv.. and probably a cot for my "upcoming" child... Building in Harvest Lakes, Atwell (Perth) status: design phase with builder Re: Ensuite advice.... 11May 15, 2009 5:00 pm I'm not much help with the ensuite. I really like the design the builder has come up with. I love the idea of the open shower. Concerning the two shower heads... if it proves that there is not enough room to have two side by side.... have you considered one on the wall and then a big dumper from the ceiling in the middle of the shower space? We also wanted two shower sets, one at each end, but as our shower was only enclosed on one end and one side, this is the compromise we came to. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Ensuite advice.... 12May 15, 2009 5:06 pm Great plan, very original!! If you moved the door to the WIR to the retreat wall (keep it right up the ensuite end), you could then move the bath to the opposite end against the WIR which would then mean you wouldn't have to worry about the water spraying into it, (which I think would be a real problem). You then just move everything else to the left. I would also put a cavity slider on the laundry so that the door isn't clashing with the linen closet. We'll hold you to not leaving the forum!! Re: Ensuite advice.... 13May 15, 2009 5:09 pm The pic on the top of page 13 in this thread.... is that the type of open shower you're thinking? But wider? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1946&hilit=shower&start=240 I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I share the same sentiments with you about the problem of water spraying into the tub. Nice! Not really much you can do, if you want both the heads together, you can only use the back wall. Is that what you’re asking? Nice! Not really much you can do, if you want both the heads together, you can only use the back wall. Is that what you’re asking? Welcome to the forum hi michelle aka the guru... yup, i like the shower and bath to be an open concept... wanted to include the WC to be a wall hung but wife reckon neither of us can tolerate our smelly business while one is showering... so decided to have the WC enclosed.... hmm.. the concern i have is if i put one showerhead on the back wall and one on the side.. making it a L-shape... the L must be big enough to accommodate 2 at one time.. Building in Harvest Lakes, Atwell (Perth) status: design phase with builder Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6139 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11835 |
