Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 20, 2007 11:58 pm I have a steel enamel bathtub in our bathroom, and white ceramic wall tiles. When the contractors tiled the area (for some reason) they cut them very close (almost flush) with the bathtub. They did the same where the tiles meet the Corian vanity top.
In this tiny gap, they had applied the same grout along this joint and it has cracked and come out in places. I'd like to clean this out and apply a silicone joint. I just bought a new toy, a beut new Fein Multipurpose powertool. It has an orbital action and carbide tools designed for removing grout. The problem is though, any aggresive grout removal or abrasive action here is likely to damage the enamel surface and possibly expose the steel, and I fear this may lead to rust and further problems. I think I need to cut a wider channel along the tiles so that there's enough space for the silicone to fill it and stay put. Also, any tips what is the best type of silicone for this application? (I guess one with a fungicide added is appropriate). Thanks in advance! Ash.
