If it was me I would want people to be honest too. I'm now getting paranoid about my choices and hoping they got written down correctly - I think I will need to check somehow! I like square basins in general, I think they look very modern and nice, but the ones you've got seem very high to me. It does look like a cakebox on the bench. I'm sorry . But then again, they dont look THAT bad, there are worse. And you never know, you might learn to love them once you've moved in! Re: My basins - not so happy 24Apr 26, 2009 12:02 pm I like the square basins. It's what we have chosen for our house. It is a matter of personal choice but I like them. Re: My basins - not so happy 25Apr 26, 2009 4:26 pm so sorry you havnt got what you wanted but i think in your case its the vanity that dosnt match the sink maybe your original sink selection would have worked better with the vanitys youve chosen. i think the square sinks are ultra modern so need fairly modern vanities to carry off the look. if they havnt cut the vanities if i were you id go buy new sinks and take away the square ones and the plumbers will just think they are the ones to put in you can always sell the sinks here or ebay stay safe happy building Re: My basins - not so happy 26Apr 26, 2009 5:44 pm Finally found your basin thread Kylie hmmm...my first impression when I saw them was OH NO! But I think once it's tiled and you've got your taps an mirror in, it will look lovely. iIt is a very modern look and if I had a choice, I think I would have picked square basins. Actually, I'm sure I would have. Aside from access issues for kids, I see it being a great benefit. I think there'll be less splashing outside the bowl unlike the ones that are recessed like we have now I'm forever wiping down the benchtop - I'm sure my kids TRY to make more mess. BTW I'm only 156cm tall - I'd get a sore neck talking to you!! Re: My basins - not so happy 27Apr 26, 2009 6:00 pm I'm not a fan of the square modern look.. I like the old fashioned oval ones... but I'm defininetly in the minority as they are very popular... I do love your handles though.. Re: My basins - not so happy 28Apr 26, 2009 6:54 pm Square or round basically comes down to personal taste (I love them, and wouldn't swap mine for boring old round ones... ). But I don't understand the fuss about the practical side. The ones in Kylie's photo are the same as ours, nice and deep, and we have no problems washing faces, washing hands or shaving (so my husband assures me). As for the height, they're the same height as our old (boring) oval basins which were more or less flush with the vanity benchtop. I'm vertically challenged and don't have a problem with my lovely square basins at all. My kids still needed a step to reach our old basins when they were younger....that's normal. Kids are short. If your builder hasn't reduced the vanity height to accommodate the raised basin, then I think you have grounds for complaint. Thank you! Also, I am with you - they seem really deep and actually quiet huge! My main concern is that they don't go with my colours - more of a natural look rather than something more modern and fresh (I checked out your blog - yours look gorgeous and really suit your ensuite!). Re: My basins - not so happy 32Apr 26, 2009 8:18 pm I am another one who looked at your pics and thought "oh no!" but in all fairness I think they will look better with the taps and tiles etc. And someone else's suggestion to add a tall vase beside them sounds like good advice. I think they will grow on you over time and as you said you could always replace them if they don't.
