Its our first selection error so hopefully no more will happen! What do Homeoner's think?? I am coming to terms with them after the initial trauma of seeing them then realising that they can't be changed as its our mistake...I am thinking a vase or something with height to balance it out...I sometimes think though it looks like a cake box sitting on top of the bench...other people have assured me they are very popular and very modern (does that equal "this dates very quickly")!??? So I am in two minds! We might change them after handover, but I might learn to live with them.... I am also worried about the practical side...when we have children they will need a step ladder to reach them...but then my nearly 7 foot electrician friend tells me they are great as he doesn't have to bend down *sigh* I think they evoke very strong reaction - Love or HATE Any comments appreciated... Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! Re: My basins - not so happy 2Apr 25, 2009 8:12 am I think you've got two problems.... Firstly, the square basin... I hate them because they are so hardto have a shave in, or to get any water in your hand for splashing your face... Secondly, the cabinet looks like its standard height... Basins mounted on the benchtop should have a reduced height benchtop so that average joe can actually use the basin without tippy toing to get your hands over the outer edge and under the tap... Fine for us 6 foot plus freaks!!! Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: My basins - not so happy 3Apr 25, 2009 8:20 am Welcome to the wrong selection club I'm the president, you can be the vice-president In all seriousness no, they look good I think. We chose the round salad bowl ones, but I also really love the square ones. Quite a few people on here have them and they look great! What was your original choice>? My karma ran over your dogma Re: My basins - not so happy 4Apr 25, 2009 8:21 am I grew up in the land of the giants (mum's house) so the height wouldn't bother our family! That style is very, very popular down here in Melbourne! They are used extensively by M3tricon in displays and PD use them as well. In fact, Petal has something very similar and her place is lovely. As for the square shape, I love that shape as you know from the discussion on my blog! I think it looks great! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Fine for us 6 foot plus freaks!!! My concerns exactly! I am 178cm so I don't find them too much of a problem...I am worried about kids though. Also we spoke to a plumber and apparently there can be issues with leaking if the mixer tap comes loose even a teeny tiny bit - it must be fixed immediately. I was wondering about the shaving issue etc, they don't appear to be too shallow though - I thought they were really deep they are huge in real life. Its a Raymor bowl. haywgl Welcome to the wrong selection club I'm the president, you can be the vice-president In all seriousness no, they look good I think. We chose the round salad bowl ones, but I also really love the square ones. Quite a few people on here have them and they look great! What was your original choice>? Well I thought ours were going to be very similar to Joles' selection except in the Raymor brand...we thought they were undermount ones. Thanks for your comments - I read your tile thread last night and I don't think they look too bad either, but I so understand the total trauma when you realise it wasn't what you imagined or it doesn't quite go with your other selections. We did exactly the same as you - we ran around to every bathroom shop looking for replacements and then nothing would fit because of the hole they cut and the draws we are having...it was exhausting.... It was funny we went back through everything and were finger pointing "it must of been the sales rep" then I realised we signed off through a variation LOL! that was funny but not in a good way LOL! joles I grew up in the land of the giants (mum's house) so the height wouldn't bother our family! As for the square shape, I love that shape as you know from the discussion on my blog! I think it looks great! Yeah its not as popular up here...but I remember having distinct reaction when I saw them in a display home going hmmmm they aren't for us....then I have had to adjust to having them! I think Kek has them too and they look good with her other selections...but ours are really natural (ie beige) so a bit worried about the overall look...yes I love the square shape too I just wanted the undermount as its more subtle and classy *sniff* It was a chain of mistakes not picked up by us so I strangely think I was meant to have them Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! Re: My basins - not so happy 6Apr 25, 2009 8:47 am If the undermount fit in the hole so to speak, perhaps it is something that can be changed after handover without too much drama??? If your immediate reaction was that you really don't like them and that's not going to alter, maybe changing them would be a good idea. See how you go for a little while after you move in.... if you still hate them, change them. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: My basins - not so happy 7Apr 25, 2009 8:54 am yes our thoughts too Joles....the magic saying "after handover we will do....." We think we may get away with it although we might lose the functionality of our top draw for our powder vanity and main bathroom (they are smaller cabinets) and I don't know if it's worth losing that decisions decisions here is a pic of the smaller vanities bathroom Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ powder area Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! Re: My basins - not so happy 11Apr 25, 2009 2:13 pm I thought I was vice president bel kyiee don't you just hate it when it's not quite right, I know the feeling too....BUT, I actually like the square very much, I like round too , but they look good and once you get your bits around it with a towel rail and taps, I bet they grow on you. Live with them for a while, you know you can changed them later. As for the height and kids, they won't be little shorties forever, mine had to stand on a little step with a normal recessed basin. Re: My basins - not so happy 13Apr 25, 2009 2:28 pm I like them too kyiee! Maybe wait till you move in and have lived with them for a while to see how much they bother you then? Re: My basins - not so happy 17Apr 25, 2009 5:32 pm A word of advice, Im not sure if the basin in the pic is sitting loose or already fixed into position, but sometimes the basin you have shown just has small holes for the waste and tap cut out and if the plumber fits his taps and plug and waste into the basin and then fits the basin onto the cupboard top, there might not be room to remove the tap or the P ând G in the future. So instead of just removeing them with the basin in situ, it will be necesary to remove the basin from the cupboard, which if its stuck down and stuck to the wall and tiled is something you dont want to think about. Make sure theres enough room in the cupboard top where the flexible connectors pass through for the next plumber to get a socket spanner up to the securing nut on the tap. Re: My basins - not so happy 19Apr 25, 2009 8:13 pm I really like the square basins, we're having them in our house. Doesn't change the fact that it's not what you thought you had chosen. I am a bit surprised though that they didn't mention that choosing those basins (even though you didn't realise you were) with your cabinetry would mean the basins would be quite high. It really comes down to who you get when making all your choices. I found that with our colour selection. I think you might find, as I am as more and more things are being done, that once the walls are painted and your mirrors up they probably won't stand out as much. I think because they are so white they really stand out against the plaster, this changes once you get some colour on the walls and tile in. For me they look great because I am bias, but hopefully if you still don't like them once the build is finished you can find something you prefer. Re: My basins - not so happy 20Apr 25, 2009 9:12 pm Kylie I Know its your decision in the end . and granted your basins are bigger but maybe not as high as mine so may work for you., your taps are proberly flickmaster and will be installed differently to mine, but from my own experience.., I hate them . mine are smaller but higher I want pd TO RIP THEM OUT Im going to give it a try even though its been a yr since they gone in. Mine were an upgrade at the time i thought they looked nice when i saw them in the displays . i need to be 6 ft to reach them , PD didnt think and i didnt think of the dilema of having the taps fitted to the walls so consequently i have to stand on tippee toes to brush my teeth and i end up with tooth paste stains down my front and a male with big hands cant fit his hands underneath the tap. Chuth i think said in his reply its hard to wash your face! it is They are the worst things invented.
