Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry Re: BASINS - Semi Recessed Vs Under Counter Vs Over Counter 2Apr 21, 2009 8:21 pm I quite like both semi-recessed and under counter - semi recessed also has the advantage that you can use it where you have a narrow vanity bench, say in a narrow ensuite and not have the bench sticking too far into the space. Over counter ones have disadvantages for children and the vertically challenged - too high to comfortably wash hands etc - let alone other functions like shaveing your legs or putting your head in them - for dying your hair, I mean. Re: BASINS - Semi Recessed Vs Under Counter Vs Over Counter 6Apr 21, 2009 8:33 pm If you have a splasher in the house, I think over counter can be a hassle with cleaning all the time, and I wonder about the silicone seal around the base discolouring. At lease with undermount its a simple wipe into the bowl. Semi recessed has never been that appealing to me, just not a look I like. Possumchops Now the proud owner of 3.7acres of Serenity. They are very different looks. Which do you prefer? I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: BASINS - Semi Recessed Vs Under Counter Vs Over Counter 14Apr 22, 2009 10:09 am kyton It does seem that you are asking us so many questions that it does raise the issue of are you conducting market research? Kind of I guess :S But for my own house not for any other reason. Sorry for causing the trouble... Re: BASINS - Semi Recessed Vs Under Counter Vs Over Counter 15Apr 22, 2009 4:23 pm GettingThere it isn't an issue but you seem to be asking questions about every decision to make. Do you and your other half not have definite ideas on what you both want? If not maybe it is better to hold off until you find out exactly what you need and want from your family home. Some things are worth waiting for. Thanks for your concern. We are trying to plan for the future. We would like the house to appeal to others as well as we are not sure what future holds. We might be forced to sell the house. Re: BASINS - Semi Recessed Vs Under Counter Vs Over Counter 17Apr 22, 2009 6:40 pm If that was the case wouldn't you be better off building a home you can afford to keep? In this market I cannot honestly see that anyone could build and sell straight away for any large sum of profit. Good luck with your decision. Some things are worth waiting for. Unfortunatelly I am not one of those who have psychic powers and can predict whether or not one or both of us might lose a job or not Re: BASINS - Semi Recessed Vs Under Counter Vs Over Counter 19Apr 22, 2009 8:36 pm gettingThere, none of us knows what the future holds. But, while it prudent to have an eye on future resale, it shouldn't be your driving force in every decision. You will end up spending a lot of money building a house that some "future buyer" may love.... but you won't. Then you won't be happy there. Look at things, go with what grabs you and appeals to you. Go with what makes you happy. The shape of a basin will not affect resale. Very few cosmetic things will. People will buy because of the floorplan. If they are worried about every single cosmetic detail being to their liking.... they'll build. Don't make the mistake of building a house for the future owner that may never even buy it. Build and choose for you! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
