Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 30, 2007 9:58 am Hi, great forum everyone... learnt heaps of stuff.
I'm renovating an old Cal Bungalow and I'm up to the bathroom stage now. So far I have managed to keep everything in line with the period and would like to continue to do so with the bathroom too (to a point). The only exception here is a glass corner semi-frameless shower... I just can't stand showering in the bath tub ! Over the past year I have been lucky enough to find all the fixtures I need including vintage toilet, pedestal and claw bath but I'm having a hard time with tile selection. I'm thinking white tessellated for the floor and white brick pattern for the walls with small capping. The decision I'm struggling with is how will tessellated (including border) look going through the glass shower screen (shower floor has already been recessed to accommodate tiles) Does anyone have any advice for me ? I'd love to see some pics to help me decide too. Thanks heaps, Mick Re: Period bathroom help 2Mar 30, 2007 8:53 pm G'day Mick.
I'm two thirds through a complete bathroom reno, though not a period one like yours. In my search for tiles, I found a tile place that has what I think you might be looking for, as well as the latest stuff. Though you're in Melbourne, I'm not sure how far away you are. If you're any where near Keilor, you could try the Tile Shed. If it's close enough to you, let me know and I'll post their address. Thanks for the reply. I'm in Mt Waverley, so Keilor is a little out of the way. But if you recommend them as worth checking out, I'll make the trip. They seem to have a big range of just about everything, and when I spoke to the guy that runs the place, he said that if they didn't have something they would get it in. Sure beats the attitude I got from one of the big well known tile shops I went into. The Tile Shed has a web site www.thetileshed.com.au and they're at 19, Slater Parade, East Keilor. Good luck with the bathroom. Tessellated Tiles – As a designer I see where you are coming from with wanting to run the tiles into the shower, a nice flow. As a woman and a designer who likes “LOW MAINTANENCE” I would strongly suggest you choose one of the colours out of the selection you have with the Tessellated Tiles. The best choice would be the lightest colour! Once any tile hits the shower you then have to deal with soap scum, which can be really hard to keep clean, more so on darker tiles!!! I understand the want to keep the Bungalow style going, but….how much hard work do you need? One colour only in the shower, you’ll be glade you did! ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Period bathroom help 6Apr 05, 2007 3:12 pm Hi Michelle,
Good advice, I'm only adhering to period style where possible and not too impractical. I was thinking white octagonals with maroon inserts and a very simple maroon border to match. (outside of claw bath is maroon) you need to understand the breakdown of warranties. 90 warranty is considered as minor defects rectification period where as the longer ones are more major/structural… 1 2793 All 3 items listed are defects and are of concern.
