Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 06, 2009 8:16 pm Hi Guys Need your thoughts on this, we are having a dark matte chocolate tiled floor (450 x 450) with a feature mosaic tile (316x450) that is in a soft earthy brown colour, which i think looks a little like stone,it is also matte. This tile will be used for the side and top of the bath and also in the shower, for the niche and a strip running down the length. We are having a beautiful white kohler bath, white shower base and also white basin. My question is...should i use gloss or matt white tiles for the rest.... I was thinnking about using 250x400..what do you think... Re: Matte or Gloss tiles? 2Apr 06, 2009 9:31 pm Rach, That's a good size tile.. it's up to you guys tho, if you like that! Just a word of advise.. from experience.. Did a bathroom for a Client.. They were the same size tile you are wanting to use.. they were also the White Matt Tiles, could be a different brand, but don't think this would matter?? Few issues with the White Matt tiles to maybe take into consideration; * Is there sun light shining on them? I did a bathroom renovation & extension for one of my clients, she had picked the same size tile an with the matt finish.. You could see every single mark with an with/without the sun light an even just the normal light bathroom light/hallway light on, you would see; watermarks after having a shower as well as once it dried out.. It didn't bother her though?.. as that is the tile she got herself.. BUT after I had seen them on the wall (floor to ceiling) grouted an cleaned up as a finished product.. I installed the shower screen, towel rails, toilet, vanity etc.. you could see my finger marks everywhere.. I had to spend a little bit of time to clean them "all" as you would see the spots I had cleaned if I was to just do the area's I touched.. So that's just my opinion coming from personal experience with Matt White Tiles.. I guess it would be the same/if not worse if they were a different colour.. The worst thing I think could go wrong is you would have spent money on some wall tiles then getting the same issues as above.. then you wouldn't like them anymore, due to "high maintenance" in keeping them clean and looking respectful.. So maybe gloss?? Ask a few of your friends if they have matt white tiles? an have a look at them Hope this helps a little??? Cheers Mano Re: Matte or Gloss tiles? 3Apr 07, 2009 7:59 am Hi Mano, Thankyou so much for that in depth answer. I am going to go with gloss white and hoping to get the 250x400 size as we have square at the moment which i want to stay away from. The tile shop where we got the tiles from are out of stock for a min of 6 weeks...we need them sooner, so at 9.00 i will be ringing around tryin to find them. Thankyou so much you helped us makeup our mind! Re: Matte or Gloss tiles? 4Apr 07, 2009 8:32 am That's fine.. glad to help.. wouldn't want people to be excited an happy to get a bathroom done, then end up being disappointed from tiles etc.. would be the worst!! heh Where are you located? if in Newcastle I know a lot of tile shops here, one of my mates owns a tile shop, an I'm sure he would be able to get them in.. if not in Newcastle, not sure how much to ship?? or he might know someone to be able to get them for you?
