Whats wrong with this design?? 2Apr 05, 2009 1:17 pm It doesn't look too bad KW - the only issue I can see is you are going to have to swing your shower door towards the entry of the ensuite. But that isn't a huge deal unless you are going to have a door on the ensuite? Is the vanity going to be large enough? Will it be around a 900mm? The only reason I ask is we are renting a home at present and have a 900mm vanity in our bathrooms. Fine for one person but think that they are too small for a couple. By the time you both put your cr@p in the cupboards everything starts falling out. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Help?? Whats wrong with this design?? 3Apr 05, 2009 1:17 pm If you change the ensuite door to a sliding cavity door, it should be alright. Depends how much you want a double vanity - personally I would rather the enlarged WIR. I feel a double vanity would be difficult in a small bathroom anyway - not really enough room for 2 people to use vanities at same time. The shower and toilet are just as close in both designs; one other option could be a shower with door opening diagonally rather than a square one, do you know what I mean? So, I vote for 1st pic Re: Help?? Whats wrong with this design?? 4Apr 05, 2009 1:44 pm Thanks folks Im not getting much help form the sales people, but as they said its your house. Some options I have is to put the door to open the opposit way to the right not the left, cavity sliding door(too expencive). Most people who have built this home say they move the toilet around to face out, for more room. But in my case it will face the Vanity. On my scale ruler, as it is, it only has 200 to 300 mm from the toilet to shower. Not much room for your legs Hey. The whole Ens is only 2m wide by 1.8 deep. I can live with a single vanity no problems but would like the WIR bigger for all my crap. I dont spend that much time in the Ens but have alot of cloths. My main concern is "will it be too tight, with the toilet & shower so close". One other person eat into the next room to get 400mm more to make more room. The next room is a theater room. I could go 200mm into it and not notice it. This is the only delema Ive got(so far) so I feel I maybe Im getting a bit fussy. Keep the ideas comming much appreciated. Whats wrong with this design?? 6Apr 06, 2009 10:22 pm Bit of a fiddly one that one.. Is it slab on ground or 2nd story? or on peirs? An option could be to move the toilet to where the basin is (in your last plan) Then move the basin to where toilet is along the wall in the 2nd last plan.. By this.. it should be giving you a little more room to move to dry yourself after a shower.. as you door might hit the toiler upon opening?? unless it's a sliding glass doors?? Also sliding cavity for your WIR Cheers Mano Re: Help?? Whats wrong with this design?? 7Apr 06, 2009 10:29 pm I'd stick with the original design but if you're set on getting more space for the WIR then what about your last revision with a corner vanity benchtop? Might make it feel a bit larger? Re: Help?? Whats wrong with this design?? 8Apr 06, 2009 10:50 pm I think 1st pic is fine providing sliding door (or opening the other way to your drawing) but you need to go with the corner type shower which has the door on the corner, not on a side (I think Helyn was suggesting the same thing above). Measure the loo and the shower distance apart in your current bathroom and just check there is enough room. There would be other ways to have this layout if it didn't work how you've tried anyways... Annie Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I am suggesting a shower as shown above (this is my bathroom) with shower door opening into centre of room rather than one side, I think your latest variation is workable with a shower like this, also a corner vanity and a sliding entry door. I like it better with the toilet turned around as you have now done in latest pic. Re: Help?? Whats wrong with this design?? 10Apr 07, 2009 6:35 am King willy Hi folks I came up with this finally what do ya think? Regards KW........Ensuit plan 3.jpg What are the dimensions of the room, KW? We had a tiny enusite in our old house, and had a corner vanity to maximise space. Helyn's suggestion of corner-opening shower is a good idea too. If you go with the above design, I'd have the door open to the opposite side. The space next to the vanity could be used for a towel rail or for shelving or other storage, and having the door open in front of those wouldn't be a problem. Re: Help?? Regards KW........Ensuit plan 3.jpg Have you thought about moving the whole WIR to the right. It looks like the entrance hallway that you'd be eating into. I think thats a great idea. the niche would look great as you walk in then you get the extra space without taking up the home theatre or even rearranging the ensuite. Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! Now tackling the HUGE task of the Garden- viewtopic.php?f=31&t=14782 Re: Help?? Whats wrong with this design?? 13Apr 07, 2009 8:46 pm No probs I know we've been concentrating on the ensuite, but... The only thing I can see wrong with the extended WIR is that some of the left hand wall will be obscured by the door. You will physically have to walk in. close the door and get what you want. step back then open the door again to get out. will become a major pain in the bum. Do you have any objection to a doorless WIR? And if you do move the WIR to the right, the WIR door will be behind the bedroom door opening. So same story there. Open door to bedroom. Step in room. Close door. Open WIR door. May work better if the hinges to the bedroom door was on the left. But a door should open to the room so the 1st thing you see is the room, not the WIR. And yeah, hinge the ensuite door on the right like others have said. Re: Help?? Whats wrong with this design?? 14Apr 08, 2009 12:25 am I don't think this matters, Maxwell, ours is like this; you just keep things in the corner that you dont use often- suits, formal dresses, whatever. I much prefer ours the way it is to a doorless robe, not keen on them. Re: Help?? Whats wrong with this design?? 15Apr 08, 2009 1:07 pm Hi all Thank you all very much for your help. I went to the display to have a look. I think if I make the Ens smaller it will be too small as mentioned no real room to dry yourself or move around freely. All so I find in the WIR the air return for the heating. So it takes up room in the coner. The WIR is too small for sure. I will have to make a choice, not to happy. The measurement are. Toilet from back to front of seat. 680mm seat wide is 370mm Across Ens: 2630 wall to wall. dont forget the Vanety sticks out 500mm from the wall. Leaving 2130 of free space. The toilet if facing out is 680mm. The shower is 900 x900. So 2630-900-500=1430 not alot of room between the shower & vanity plus a 720 door. Deep from ent door to back: 1950 There is a 420 mm gap between the toilet & shower as in the original plan. What to do??? Thanks heaps people. Regards to all KW................. “It's just as unpleasant to get more than you bargain for as to get less” George Bernard Shaw. Re: Help?? Whats wrong with this design?? 16Apr 08, 2009 8:45 pm Hmm, 2600 x 1950?? We survived for 22 years with an ensuite that was 1800 x 1600 or thereabouts. The layout was similar to yours, but with toilet and shower swapped around and the vanity across the corner. Towel rail went behind the door.... It wasn't perfect, but it worked. No room for two people in there at once, but, oh well. If you don't have a huge amount of space, make sure you keep the colours fairly light - and consider using the same tile on floor and walls. Put the biggest mirror you can manage in there too, it'll make it seem more spacious. A semi-recessed basin makes it seem bigger too. Re: Help?? Whats wrong with this design?? 17Apr 09, 2009 11:42 pm Thank you all so much. I will consider all the options, I like the idea of a corner shower with the sliding door and the color and large mirror is a great idea also. The other otpion is to spend more money and make the thing right and extend the Ens out 2 meters and be happy. Thanks & regards The King (Willy)........... “It's just as unpleasant to get more than you bargain for as to get less” George Bernard Shaw. Re: Help?? Whats wrong with this design?? 18Apr 11, 2009 1:46 pm King willy Hi all Can you please give me some comments on this design? I want to make the WIR bigger, but have to change the Ensuit a bit. I feel it may be to cramped. Maybe the toilet & shower will be to close. Ive attached both original and my design. Let me know what you think please. ........Ensuit & WIR 1aa.jpg Thank heaps, Regards King W I had this dilemma too! How about using your new 2.0 plan but....swap toilet and vanity around... move shower exactly opposite to where it is now. This would mean extending the wall over and having the door right on the end. My door opens out as per regulations. Is this an option for you? Don't have a shower door, mine is open and i just have the one screen. There is water splash, but that is my choice, and the compromise!(I'll be able to get my wheel-chair in ) Having the toilet directly opposite is the reason, the vanity won't get damp. Maybe something lik this.vanity1B.jpg My shower shows what I mean. Hope this all has confused you even more! Whats wrong with this design?? 19Apr 12, 2009 10:27 am Not sure if I like you're original change as I've had a bathroom with that configuration and it feels really cramped.. Although you can brush your teeth while sitting on the loo (not sure why anyone would do those too things at once.. but thats another story). I like the idea of either the corner shower or moving the WIR the other way and making a corner feature etc in the entry.. very nice.. or perhaps even both.. (although the first thing you see when looking into the bathroom would be the toilet with the corner option (i had similar issues myself). Thus I'd go for the original layout and just extend your robe towards the entrace. -------------------------------------------------------- Building in Highlands Craigieburn Status: Building the Laundryless 25.5: Slab Complete Unless the room is for storage then it's non compliant BCA V2 2019 S3 P3.8 You have 2 options 1.
