Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 04, 2009 12:21 pm We've just got our quote back from prestart for tiling our wet areas. Of course I didnt choose a single builders standard tile. We do our selections at a tile shop so I had no idea what the costs of laying the tiles I chose would be Well $4000 later on top of the included $44 per sqm allowance Now the tiles I chose are all porcelain & some are rectified. They are 300 x 300 & 300 x 600. The area to be tiled is approx 30sqm which includes to 2m wall height in the shower recesses. So am I correct it would be a lot cheaper to buy the tiles myself (they are in the $45 - $50 per sqm range) & get a tiler in to lay them post handover? Does anyone know the approx price for laying these large porcelain tiles? And for the really dumb question does the builder install all the tapware, shower screens etc & our tiler would just take them off & fit them after they are done tiling??? Thanks Re: Tiling wet areas post handover 2Apr 14, 2009 6:46 pm Hi, Im not sure if builders can do that can they?? We are building with C. and were told that we cannot do wet area tiling after handover and they can not sign off on the house until wet area tiling was done! Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! Now tackling the HUGE task of the Garden- viewtopic.php?f=31&t=14782 Re: Tiling wet areas post handover 3Apr 14, 2009 8:40 pm The builder legally has to have a licensed plumber for bathroom works (taps etc) Re: Tiling wet areas post handover 4Apr 14, 2009 10:07 pm The builder gave us 3 options: 1) stick with our chosen tiles 2) choose all from standard range & rip them up post handover 3) Get our own tiler in with 2 days notice from builder. We have to give them our tilers abn, blue card, purhase all tiles, glue, grout etc I dont think I ll take the risk of getting a tradie in with 2 days notice! Too much like hard work. We have decided to keep the upgraded tiles in the ensuite & have re done our selection with builders standard for the laundry, bathroom & wc. All sorted guys. Just needed to buy a blade with the correct bush. Dunno how to delete this post, can't find any help file. Cheers. 1 3657 Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering.
