Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 24, 2009 10:55 am Hi Guys ..You know how your builder normally gives you 1.8m high tiles in the shower, and everywhere else its prolly 1.2m .. i wanted to ask is that good enough? Does it pose any long term problems (like wetness seeping through walls etc) .. Also, is it really needed in the shower area or all around the bathroom .. I'm not sure how much extra would it be to tile the whole ensuite / bathroom but seems it will be a few grands .. just weighing if i really need it in light of your experiences ... thanks --- I don't have a signature - just this sentence saying that I don't have one - that'll do! Re: Bathroom tiles .. height of installation? 2Mar 24, 2009 11:35 am I cant really give you anything technical, but we have requested it to be 2 metres high, instead of the standard 1.8 in the shower. 1.8 just seemed a bit low to me but I may be wrong. Re: Bathroom tiles .. height of installation? 3Mar 24, 2009 2:07 pm Every builder is different. Ours for instance was 1.8m in the shower then 1.2m behind a bath with only a single row on all other walls (like a skirting board made of tiles). This we have kept as standard for all the minor ensuites plus powder rooms however in our main ensuite we have tiling 2m all the way around. It won't create any long term problems. My parents houses have always been tiled this way and their current one was built in 1880 with tiling done in the 1970's this way - to no ill-effect. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Bathroom tiles .. height of installation? 4Mar 24, 2009 2:16 pm we had the same as kyton. But in the areas where it was to be 1.8m, I spoke nicely to the tiler when he was on site and brought him a 6 pack and he tiled higher in those areas for me not sure how high it is, not to the ceiling but definitely over 2m. Re: Bathroom tiles .. height of installation? 5Mar 24, 2009 2:22 pm You can always get a quote down to extend your tiles up higher when you do your tile selection then decide from there.... If I had an unlimited budget I would be tiling to the ceiling everywhere. Re: Bathroom tiles .. height of installation? 6Mar 24, 2009 4:38 pm We decided to tile all the way to the ceiling. It was extra, but not as much as I thought. Easier to clean, and since there's 3 full bathrooms and an extra toilet, that's a lot of cleaning! Judie Re: Bathroom tiles .. height of installation? 7Apr 01, 2009 1:08 pm Both my boys are on track to be at least 196cm tall so we have asked for the shower head to be at 2000cm and the tiling to 2100cm Standard height offered by the builder was 1800 to the shower, and 1500 everywhere else. Because of the feature tile we are having at 1500 we will have to put an extra row of tiles on top of it. So we are waiting for the builder to come back and quote us on it. Actually might give the Sales consultant a call now. I've given him 3 whole days already to figure it out. Re: Bathroom tiles .. height of installation? 8Apr 01, 2009 1:30 pm Hi, I have asked for the tiling to beb up to the ceiling for my two bathrooms. Costs $3500. Alternatively, you can asked for a paint upgrade such as Dulux Washa dn Wear or Tuabmans LivingProof Silk in the bathroom wall and ceiling so that it is washable/easy to clean. I have paid directly to the painter to add another coat of paint Living Proof Silk on the whole house becasue the builder only use one base coat and one colour paint coat. behw Hi Marko The best thing to do is to have a look at your contract and see how the variation clause is worded.
