Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 22, 2009 11:57 pm Hi guys, we are building a house and were wondering people thoughts on bathroom tiles. Big or small tiles? Are the feature tiles hard to keep clean because they are small? Has anyone got photos of there bathrooms so we can get ideas of colors. thanks Re: Bathroom feature tiles. 2Mar 23, 2009 6:44 am You can get feature tiles that are built into the tile, rather than a separate tile, so no different to cleaning a normal tile. We have medium size feature tiles like this, will take a pic this afternoon, have to go to work now. Re: Bathroom feature tiles. 3Mar 23, 2009 8:35 am For my showers, I'm using 200x250mm tiles in white and then using a vertical strip of 100x300mm tiles (tiles horizontal) going down the middle of the wall in dark chocolate. I see those tiny little square tiles and my head just hurts at the amount of cleaning that could involve. 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' In the main bathroom it's a pebble tile; one strip horizontally around the shower and one strip under the mirror. I am getting them sealed but so far they have held up well cleaning wise, with white grout. In the ensuite we hve a strip of glass mosaics under the mirror. They are multi coloured and they are either very easy to clean or hide the dirt well! here are some pics Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. As you can see, the feature is part of some tiles rather than a separate tile. It was an economical way to get a feature tile when we renovated, and there was a good range available. Now we have pebble strips and other feature tiles, and neither is any problem to clean. I use a squeegee in the showers and usually just a wet cloth for the vanity splashbacks. They come in different colours - ours are known as tan. I think there's a grey as well, might be another colour too, not sure. It was a while ago now. Bev, yes we picked them all ourselves. They weren't even expensive, since we only needed small amounts. A full-length vertical pebble strip in each shower, and the two splashbacks (the ensuite one is quite long) cost us about $500. The glass tiles were the most expensive item, but the laying cost wasn't a lot, since they're actually large tiles that look like a lot of small ones. Re: Bathroom feature tiles. 10Mar 31, 2009 9:46 pm Hi Donuts, I'm having the same glass mosaics in my bathroom....have you got a close up pic of them? (the vanity one and in the shower if you got them there of course)...I just want to get a good idea of how they look with once they have grout and how they look amongst the tiles all grouted up properly. Sorry mark&ali to hijack your thread FWIW we are going for large tiles 300x200...for me, the less grout the better! Re: Bathroom feature tiles. 11Mar 31, 2009 9:59 pm hi thorney. I don't think I have any closer up but check my house of donuts thread there might be some in there. Otherwise I'll try to take a closer picture tomorrow. Remind me if I forget!
