We were going to have dark woodgrain laminate benchtop for our benchtops but our cabinetmaker (who is a contractor of multiple volume builders in Melbourne) advised us against them because he has had multiple customers complaining about the benchtops showing scratches just weeks after installation. braveheart Re: Which colour should I go with? Photos attached! 22Mar 10, 2009 5:03 pm Just a thought...
We're also having wenge coloured vanities, but have decided to use a creamier type of benchtop, instead of the white. We'll probably use a Caesarstone benchtop e.g. nougat. Or if that's too costly....probably Laminex Freestyle, such as the Tahini, Zucchero, or Coconut Milk ones. We have a completely white vanity at the moment, and let me tell you....you can see every make up smudge, toothpaste smudge, hair (!) etc. Impossible to keep clean. I really do love the idea of a dark woodgrain benchtop, but I was reminded by our builder to be 'practical', to think beyond the prettiness. HTH Re: Which colour should I go with? Everything dates.... and I actually think the top one looks dated already, becasue it is a look that has been around for ever and done to death. AGREED! This is a really hard decision that we have to make. mozzi26 - ideally we would love to use Caesarstone, but we are first home buyers and our budget is already on the red :p She&He+3+3 - Yes we do have one ensuite and one bathroom. Thats a really good idea! we might put option A in the ensuite and option B in the bathroom OR vice versa =) braveheart - u mentioned that the dark wood will show scratches? Do you mean that the dark wood will be scratched and show scratches more easily than the white colour top? Thanks to all that have commented and suggested =) Williams Landing Stage 10 - Kingwell Neighbourhood Re: Which colour should I go with? Photos attached! 25Mar 11, 2009 7:34 am I think I like option B, the white sinks contrasting the brown benchtop is really nice. I was going to do something similar, but now just choc pear colour on the bottom and a sandy colour for the tops. Re: Which colour should I go with? Photos attached! 26Mar 11, 2009 12:23 pm I think the white looks heaps better, to me it looks alot fresher and helps the room look brighter.
Sure everything dates, but some things date quicker than others, eg, My MIL and FIL re did their kitchen in the 70's, it was unusual at the time to have an all white kitchen ( everyone was using bright colours, lime green burnt orange) it was considered quite boring...We are in 2009 and that same kitchen still looks really good, while their friends have replaced theirs 3 times now... If you are on a budget I would be thinking more long term, Fashions come and go, white appeals to a lot more people. Not everyone has the money to rip out and replace a vanity every 5-10 years. For resale value I would stick with white also. Each does have it's pro's and cons. But I think the white looks great. Re: Which colour should I go with? I was told the dark woodgrain scratch easily and that it will only take a matter of weeks if it is in an area that is used regularly. The cabinetmaker said he has been called back by customers to replace so many dark woodgrain benchtops just weeks after installation. braveheart Re: Which colour should I go with? I need to scratch this comment I couldn't get the speckled top to my bathroom cabinets that I wanted so I've decided to do them all the one colour laminate, the same as the doors... It is also true though that dark coloured tops need more cleaning. I've got charcoal tops and I know. Re: Which colour should I go with? Photos attached! 35Apr 22, 2009 10:19 pm I like the dark benchtop But then again I think that is because I like things to 'match' somewhat. So it would be all white or all dark.. The basins look great with the dark though Re: Which colour should I go with? Photos attached! 36Apr 22, 2009 10:26 pm I like the white benchtop for the reasons given above - I think it lifts the room and provides a lovely contrast to the cupboards... Hi bluesteel, After very long consideration, I have decided on option B. The dark benchtop. =) First, with the white benchtop, it will show the black substrate across the vanities (square edge) And at the moment, I think we prefer the dark bench as it provides a good contrast with the white basins.
