Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 04, 2009 9:04 pm In the house we are currently renting the tiling in the toilet goes up to 2m. I really like this as it means I can easily clean the walls.
You can see splatter marks on the walls, from when people flush the toilet with the lid up, so I am just wondering if people think it is worth getting tiling up the walls in the toilet, and if they have done it what it looks like. Since I have two young boys I am sure the toilet lid will never get put down before being flushed. We will be having 20x30cm tiles in the bathroom the long way |_| sort of like that. Do you think that would look odd up to 2m high? and if I do that should I then put in a line of feature tiles like you do in the bathroom and ensuite? I've included a picture of our current toilet to show how high they go. but i think that looks like a public toilet at a service station rather than something youd have at home Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. In our new house we will only have tiling around the pedestal basin (it's a powder room). If you have a good quality paint on the walls it should be easy enough to wipe clean. Re: Tiling in the toilet - how far would you go 5Mar 04, 2009 10:06 pm Nope, we had that in Qld and it looked fine. You could ask the tiler to cut the tiles to make them square, but it will probably cost you more. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. A compromise between the full tiling and one row, is to tile the full wall at the back of the cistern and leave the sides just with one row. At least that way it gets some of their mess on the tiles so it's easier to wipe down. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I guess I have to be the one to say it, what makes you think the splatter marks are from the toilet flushing? With your two young boys I've got a better idea.... Anyway, I am not sold on tiles up the wall, I like the public toilet comment, also, it seems to make the toilet a bit cramped - not that they are the most spacious of rooms anyway but you know what I mean Re: Tiling in the toilet - how far would you go 12Mar 05, 2009 8:23 am Helyn Ours are only one tile high too - hopefully males in household have better aim by now It only takes a couple of beers... I found this on the internets..almost makes you never want to go to the toilet again Quote: * With each flush, fecal pathogens can splash out of the bowl and hang tight on nearby surfaces - including you! * The splash radius of a toilet is usually 3 to 4 feet (so you may want to rethink where you keep your toothbrush, no?) * The splash radius of a high-powered public restroom toilet is as far as 20 feet and can pack as many as 1 million infectious organisms in its spray. * It takes the ingestion of as few as 10 particles of various viruses or bacteria to cause such pleasurable symptoms as fever, diarrhea and vomiting. Yum. * Such spray-friendly viruses and bacteria include: * Hepatitis A * Norovirus * Shigella * Salmonella * E. Coli Re: Tiling in the toilet - how far would you go 15Mar 05, 2009 8:41 am That's pretty funny.
But I don't think there's any real risk. We'd all be dead and buried by now if there was. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. As part of the cost cutting, I'm going for just a single row.
The good thing is that now that I think about it, it will look better. Not worried about any cleaning issue. (I voted for a single row.) And to be honest, Ive never really payed that much attention to them as they dont look 'silly' at all.... And noone else has ever pointed them out as weird, so i think unless you specifically say to someone "Look at my tiled toilet walls" they wouldnt really notice either.
I personally wouldnt have it any other way. And i cant imagine one row if tiling....
