Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 04, 2009 4:57 pm Has anyone seen or heard of a shower step (shower foot rest ?)?. Not sure if I just imagined it or what and google wasn't much of a help.
What it is is a little jutting out bit (similar to a soap dish) that's at the right height to put your toes on to wash / shave your legs. I saw it on TV where it was the part of a rail shower and just bent out at the bottom for your foot rest. Theres a crappy shaver / plastic / corner contraption on google but I'm thinking of something the size of a cigarette package (but stylish) that's attached permenantly to the wall. Bottom line - I have terrible balance and almost fall over washing my legs and feet each morning and after a run I'm too stiff and tired to bend over . Am I just completely nuts ?. Re: Shower Step 4Mar 04, 2009 5:05 pm Nope, your not nuts at all, lol.....I always said that l would get one of these whenever we built next.....l've seen the low recesses too...perfect for shaving legs!..but alas, l kept on overlooking it and seeing that in the end we didn't have the budget to have higher recesses, there was no point in getting a step/low recess put in either ....l'm sure l'll rue this for the next 15 years, lol.
In another thread we were talking about the shower recesses and how some builders won't do them (l think it was in my thread actaully, lol) because of potential future damage...if your builder is the same, the step option would be the way to go.....lucky you if you get one! Re: Shower Step 5Mar 04, 2009 5:15 pm Oh phew - the relief that I didn't just imagine it
I thought of getting a step / cavity thingy to serve the same purpose but then I have to clean it and shower cleaning is a pet hate Imagine an expensive hole punch shaped thing attached to the wall - that's what I want. My husband was talking to one of his customers about the shower recess and she showed him the shelving she had in her shower, it was crome and glass. Made by a company called Packers. Though there website has very little on it. You could email them. http://www.packers.com.au/ Re: Shower Step 13Mar 04, 2009 9:29 pm They do a shelf for feet ?. On the website I can only see a shelf for shampoo and things.....
I'll contact them...... Building Upside down house in Wantirna VIC Current Stage: Procrastination... it's just all too hard.... Blog: http://thereluctantbuilder.blogspot.com/ Re: Shower Step 14Mar 04, 2009 9:47 pm I had never seen something like that but have thought about what we'll do in our new shower, that's for sure.
In our current rental we have a shower over bath so I find the side of the bath very handy for when I need to shave my legs, etc. We'll have a tiled shower recess but doubt it will be high enough... Let us know if you have any luck finding it in crome, you might have some followers! Lisanne you made me laugh too, I could picture you trying to put your leg up on the niche... haha, something I would probably try Re: Shower Step 15Mar 04, 2009 10:11 pm Ok girls - I'm on a mission.

Re: Shower Step 18Mar 05, 2009 10:39 pm So in some of my spare time tonight...l found this, it's a corner foot rest, from the UK though :
http://www.rubberduckbathrooms.co.uk/st ... b7ae6c81fc Wonder how you go about installing it? And also, l was considering this as an option if there were no better ones......a normal soap tray ...It's has the perfect width and depth for a foot, it's flat and it looks good, see here (top right) : http://www.bathroomwarehouse.com.au/pro ... d_668.html Again, how are these installed (screwed in?) and are these a DIY install job or would a tiler/plumber have do it??...and also l dunno if the soap tray would support the weight of a leg ok? depends on how it's installed l suppose? What do you think ladies? Re: Shower Step 19Mar 06, 2009 9:59 am Good google work there Thorney
I like the corner one... with the exchange rate it's quite a lot though for a little metal bar. I was thinking about using a soap dish or something but it depends how it attaches to the wall. Whilst I'd like to think that my leg weighs similar to a 100g bar of soap the reality is that it would need to bear 20kg+.
