Hope this helps a bit! Re: Fan, Heater, Light in one 4Mar 01, 2009 5:08 pm Helyn Yes, I have one in ensuite and main bathroom, not a PD customer though and don't know the cost, was included in our specifications. Not much help to you, am I? Heheh not really Flissfloss Hi Lisanne, We built with cl@rendon and they charged us $120 to supply and install a ixl 3 way, fan/light/heat combo. Hope this helps a bit! Our builder included the 3-in-1s to both ensuite and bathroom but when l got the first set of plans back l noticed that they put exhaust fans above the ensuite shower. I queried why when we already had an IXL in there. The SC advised that they found that the most common and really only negative feedback they had with their homes at 3 month inspection was that the IXL did not adequately suck up the steam...The reason was because the IXL is in the middle of the ensuite and with the shower being located in the corner and being walled on 3 sides. So now they put an extra exhaust fan directly above the shower. We are still having an IXL (light and heat only though) in the middle and the exhaust fan over the shower, but one with a light also. Just thought l'd share this for the benefit of others who may have an ensuite set-up similar to mine. Re: Fan, Heater, Light in one 7Mar 02, 2009 7:58 am Thanks Thorney, so maybe leave it as is and then install a light/heater combo at a later date? Our old house had an exhaust fan directly over the shower and we never had a problem with wet walls, fogged up mirror or any mould what so ever. The house was over 40 years old, and we had been living in it for 12. At our temp accom, which is around 4 years old, there is only a 3 in 1 in the middle of the room, and not a fan above the shower. The walls are constantly wet after showering, and the mirror often is fogged up. I hate having the window open all the time while showering as it's breezy, and not entirely private! I NEVER had to open the window on our old house due to steam issues, as the fan above the shower did a fabulous job. If you are going to have an IXL 3 in 1 or similar, I would ALWAYS have an extra fan directly above the shower....IMHO, of course! Nothing worse than mould in your shower, on the walls or ceiling. Who has time in the morning to dry walls before you go to work? Sorry, strayed off the topic, and I can't help you with a price!! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! No no, very helpful as I wasn't completely sold on the idea myself. I don't want moist walls or anything like that as there isn't a door between my ensuit and my WIR, so I may just leave it as is and then down the track get a heater/light installed as I really am not that phased about it for now. You can have a fan, but not a fan with a light as far as I know. We are having an exhaust fan with a light...though my BIL (our electrician) said if he could get one (that we liked) with the correct "IP" rating...whatever the hell that means, lol...it's something to do with the water/ heat if l recall. If not, we're having a fan and two downlights (also IP rated) on either side of it. Re: Fan, Heater, Light in one 14Mar 04, 2009 4:25 pm Fans are allowed but not lights.
An IP rating is "ingress protection" rating. The first number is physical ingress; fingers, pens dust etc and the second is water. Level Object size protected against Effective against 0 — No protection against contact and ingress of objects 1 >50 mm Any large surface of the body, such as the back of a hand, but no protection against deliberate contact with a body part 2 >12.5 mm Fingers or similar objects 3 >2.5 mm Tools, thick wires, etc. 4 >1 mm Most wires, screws, etc. 5 dust protected: Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact 6 dust tight: No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact Level Protected against Details 0 not protected — 1 dripping water: Dripping water (vertically falling drops) shall have no harmful effect. 2 dripping water when tilted up to 15° : Vertically dripping water shall have no harmful effect when the enclosure is tilted at an angle up to 15° from its normal position. 3 spraying water : Water falling as a spray at any angle up to 60° from the vertical shall have no harmful effect. 4 splashing water : Water splashing against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effect. 5 water jets: Water projected by a nozzle against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects. 6 powerful water jets: Water projected in powerful jets against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects. 7 immersion up to 1 m : Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion). 8 immersion beyond 1 m: The equipment is suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions which shall be specified by the manufacturer. NOTE: Normally, this will mean that the equipment is hermetically sealed. However, with certain types of equipment, it can mean that water can enter but only in such a manner that produces no harmful effects. My downlights over the shower are rated at IP56. A small 200mm fan will extract most steam easily. I haven't seen any 2-in-1's that are IP rated. Licenced Sparky and Data Cabler If "The Data Guys" is too long to type, TDG will do. Re: Fan, Heater, Light in one 15Mar 04, 2009 4:56 pm Thanks TDG for your explanation of IP ratings...you learn something new everyday
The 2-in-1 won't be going over the shower, it'll be in the middle of the ensuite. The exhaust fan/light will be going over the shower if they make them with the right IP rating. But l think even if they do, the ones l saw onlinw today, didn't take my fancy much, so we're gonna go the fan and downlights option instead.....it'll make the ensuite that little bit extra spesh looking Any electricians here please help. 1) Will the Fan need separate switch to ON/OFF/Speed eventhough it comes with Remote 2) how about… 0 1237 My home office is hot with computer equipment running virtually 18 hours a day.
