Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 09, 2009 1:48 pm We are looking for any advice that people have in relation to a 'step-up' to a spa/bath. As we are both quite tall we are definitely doing a step-up to the spa in our ensuite however we are undecided whether to do the same for the bathtub in the bathroom.
We don't have any children (yet) however they are definitely are on the cards. I understand that any bathtub situation poses safety issues so is it best to eliminate the step for the children's bathtub? We don't like the look of such a low bath so we would like to see what people's views or experiences are with the steps and with little children. Thank you! On the Level 2Feb 10, 2009 2:04 pm Hi Mr Ed,
I think that bathtubs are best installed with the floor of the bath at the same level as the bathroom floor. That way you are not imbalanced getting in and out. Steps in a bathroom always pose issues. There are guidlines in the building code for tread and riser max and min heights. Make sure the edges are not sharp. Mitred cuts on the tiles are not great, you could use tile trim or bull noe the edges of the tiles. I have two small children, and based on their antics in the bath, I would not recommend a step close to their bath. They send half their bathtime getting in the the other half getting out, and the rest of the time looking like they are about to fall over, which they sometimes do. On falling over, I reckon acrylic baths are best for kids as they have a bit more give and do not chip easily.\ Happy bathing! What you say definitely makes sense, especially with regards to children safety. We have decided on a step for our ensuite spa (since that will be an adult only zone) and no step for the bathroom. Re: Step-up to bathtub / spa 4Feb 15, 2009 5:03 pm I actually added a step thinking about trying to bathe small kids.
As a tall guy i find it easy to bath my dog/small child sitting on the step and leaning in. http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/aussieIDI-07/DSC01740.jpg Licenced Sparky and Data Cabler If "The Data Guys" is too long to type, TDG will do. Re: Step-up to bathtub / spa 7Feb 20, 2009 10:52 pm Just a completely pointless post...but I LOVE LOVE LOOOVE the look of steps going up to things!!
Spas, baths, BED areas (like having a big bed and 2 bedside tables on a platform type thing, not too high, nothing silly), sunken rooms, raised kitchens...BEAUTIFUL!!! *insane for STEPS* How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Step-up to bathtub / spa 8Feb 21, 2009 5:37 pm two broken knees and a bad back means I HATE STEPS!!!!
