For the life of me, I can't turn the nut connecting the water supply line to the cistern. The nut at the tap-end was fine, but this one just doesn't want to budge. By the look of it, applying too much force is either going to snap the supply line itself (it's a solid tube, not flexible) or break the fill valve - admittedly I'm trying to replace the fill valve, but I don't want to do damage that is going to cost me more to fix. Any suggestions on how to loosen this stubborn nut??? Re: Disconnecting toilet water supply line 2Jan 28, 2009 4:01 pm Ok, heres what you do. If you can hold against yourself, by using a shifter on the nut (its called a kinko nut, by the way) and a pair of multi grips on the shaft of the inlet valve. ALWAYS HOLD AGAINST YOURSELF. Always use two pair of grips or shifters.
If this doesnt work, cut the inlet valve shaft with a junior hacksaw. As you've already loosened the bottom kinko nut the pipe between the cistern and the isolating valve will come out easily after you've cut it. you can then unscrew the back nut down whats left of the inlet valve shaft. If you can, try and loosen the back nut first. Replace the inlet valve with either a Fluidmaster or a Dura inlet valve. (about $20 retail) replace the pipe you cut out with a flexi connector (about $10 retail. They come in various lengths, 300mm being the most generally used.
