I def would have thought it is personal taste, do you need a bath (ie kids), if so, yes shower over bath. If not, then you have a choice of shw over bath, or if you don't want a bath, leave it out for now.
When I rented years ago, one place I lived in didn't have a bath (Prahran!) so I really missed the bath, and would do everything in my power to avoid that happening again... and I'd rather shw/over bath, rather than no bath - but that's me.
From a re-sale point of view, def shw/over bath.

My personal taste is having no bath because in times of water shortages (basically all the time in QLD) I think it is irresponsible to be bathing anyway (sorry people I've just offended)....but I think young kids is the biggest argument for installing one.
