Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 20, 2009 10:33 am Hi all...
Just looking for opinions on a new style of shower i've found. They are formed during the slab pour. The entry is at floor level and falls 20-30mm to the rear of the shower. At the rear is a stainless steel grate which runs the whole width of the shower IE: 900mm in my case. This makes it very easy for tilers too, especially using large format as they can tile straight across the front then down. I'm only looking for opinions as I'm thinking about standing in the shower on a slope, albeit 25mm, would this be noticable to the person showering at all?? Thanks... Re: SLOPING SHOWER RECESS TO STAINLESS GRATE..? 2Jan 20, 2009 11:19 am We are having these!!!!! It's not noticeable at all as I've tested out the shower in my display home.
I'm not sure if ours has a sort of tiled ledge at the front..... .... but we have the stainless steele grate across the back wall.... I'll see if I have a pic. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. But I think it looks so slick. This pic doesn't show the very front, but I'm pretty sure it goes straight in from the floor without a built up lip.... and obviously there must be slope for it to drain to the back. It's not noticable standing in it though.

We are having a hobless shower in our ensuite. i'd have loved this kind of grate. It would be perfect. Re: SLOPING SHOWER RECESS TO STAINLESS GRATE..? 6Jan 20, 2009 1:57 pm Yep spot on...I'll be doing this style...thanks for that..! Re: SLOPING SHOWER RECESS TO STAINLESS GRATE..? 8Jan 20, 2009 5:37 pm joles It's not noticeable at all as I've tested out the shower in my display home. Um....you did? I bet they drain better than a standard shower. Our old house was built on stumps and thanks to unstable soil, the floors had shifted over the years. It wasn't noticeable at all, no visibly sloping rooms or anything, but water used to sit in one corner or other of the showers and it drove me nuts. I imagine the full-length grate would make that less likely. Re: SLOPING SHOWER RECESS TO STAINLESS GRATE..? 9Jan 20, 2009 5:48 pm I like the look of them, definitely a stylish finish and not a huge fan of the old school one so want something different. We are tossing up between this and another product called smart tile which we found in Beaumonts tiles. Here's a link for a pic of this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Smart-Tile--*New ... 9001r12985 How much does the shower grate cost out of interest? ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through! Re: SLOPING SHOWER RECESS TO STAINLESS GRATE..? 10Jan 20, 2009 5:54 pm Ours is costing just over $800 for each shower. That's actually considerably cheaper than some other builders... M3tricon charge around $1100.
It's funny, but for me it was something that just "made" the bathrooms. And as so much is standard with our builder I could sort of justify it... And kek.... you just have a rude mind! The Boutique ones are here and this details the installation process which looks alot more completed than the cheaper versions seen on ebay. Probably why the cost is $800 when drain is $270 (lots of labour). http://www.alustain.com.au/spartan_drains.html The alternative I am thinking could be a full bamboo grate whole floor...though not sure if that would avoid mould... I renovated my bathroom and found this great website. Their shower drains / grates look great and worked fine. Much cheaper than buying from bathroom outlets. I paid $165 for a 900mm. Delivery was only $18.
