Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 15, 2009 7:21 pm Hello all, we've recently purchased our first house and already we're busy planning out our bathroom renovation. The way it is set up at the moment is the toilet is in its own room next to the bathroom and it has slate tiles same as the picture below. We plan on opening the wall up between the toilet and bathroom to make it one big room. As luck would have it, we found a big pile of the same slate tiles under the house and would like to continue using the same ones into the bathroom.
We want to keep the bathroom as open as possible and prefer not to go to a different style of tile in the shower area. What I would like to know is can I use these tiles in the shower area or will it be too difficult to keep clean from the soap scum etc. Thanks in advance.............awesome forum too Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Slate tiles in the shower 2Jan 15, 2009 7:34 pm Before I became a decorator, I cleaned houses…..yes I know, bit of a difference.
I cleaned a friend’s house that had slate right through their house. The showers were the hardest to clean. If you do it, make sure they are well sealed, and keep up with the re-sealing on the shower floor. This way the soap scum won’t penetrate the slate. Slate if not sealed properly is very porous. What do you reckon I could use which would compliment the slate tiles? I'm just worried that it will look a bit like an after thought if it's a different tile and doesn't flow with the open plan. I would take the most common colour out of the slate tile to a tile shop and try and match a floor tile to it. Stay as close in colour as you can. If you can possibly, a bit darker wall tile, or more of a stone colour. The dark brown for the floor tile is good.
