Looks like a big job. Thanks norbs. Hopefully we'll all get something from it. I went into it knowing it was going to be a bit of a nightmare. I knew the shower had been leaking from the way the tiles were. But once I got the tiles and cement sheet off, it wasn't quite as bad as I expected. Replacing floor joists isn't such a big job, and at least it will be better than the original was, with all the new materials etc on the market these days. My son showed me the "Flickr" site as he and his partner and friends use it a lot. It's very easy to use once you get the hang of it and it's a good place to store photos and share them with friends. Then I thought it might be a good idea to document the bathroom reno. One thing led to another and now everyone can look at the progress, make comments, ask questions etc. I started putting in the floor joists today so there will be more pics up later. If all you can see are obstacles, you have lost sight of the goals The saga continues. 9Feb 07, 2007 7:28 pm The shower base arrived yesterday so once I could establish where the waste pipe had to go, I installed the last floor joist, laid new floor boards and prepared it all for the shower base to go in. The pics are up

Hi Michelle, Actually, I did run the vacuum around the studs etc after I'd removed everything that had to come out Tons of spiders webs etc aren't exactly conducive to me feeling safe Not scared of spiders as such but I'd prefer not to share my space with them. But I'm probably a bit of a clean freak anyway. I hate working in a messy situation and often clean up as I'm going along. I'm just waiting now for a mate of mine to turn up and give me a hand lifting the very heavy shower base on to a bed of cement. Then I can get on with putting the rest of the floor down; then replace the ceiling. And enjoy a couple of Bourbons when your done…… Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com The saga continues 14Feb 16, 2007 8:01 pm Well, I haven't been idle while I'm waiting to fit the shower base (Tomorrow). I've ripped down the ceiling, added a few roof joists, put in the wiring for the downlights, and installed the ducting and the motor for the extractor fan. The wall opposite the shower has been re-panelled with cement sheet, ready for tiling.
The pics are up on Flickr. There have been a couple of comments in the forum about using cement sheet and the hazards re breathing silica dust. Whilst this is true if you are cutting the cement sheet with a saw or something similar, there is no problem if it is correctly cut with a cement sheet cutter, and/or a suitable mask is used. Cement sheet per se is not the problem, but silica dust is of course hazardous if inhaled.
