Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 08, 2009 8:41 pm I am thinking of porcelain tiles.
I saw in a display house today where they were used on the floor and carried all the way up the walls in the shower and around the bath hob. This looked really nice. I am thinking of doing this with a chrome capping around the hob and on the top of the last tile, along with a stone strip mosaic border in the shower and up the side of the bath and up the wall above the bath. Would this look ok or should I forget about the feature tile and keep it all plain. I was wondering due to them being high gloss would they be slippery in the shower and would you need to stand on one of those rubber mat things. getting out of the bath shouldnt be a problem as you have a bath mat to stand on. But I know normal ceramic tiles are slippery when wet and wondered if porcelain would be worse. Re: another porcelian tile question! 2Jan 09, 2009 7:42 pm Polished porcelain tiles will be slippery in a wet area but so will any tile that has smooth flat surface. If this is your choice of tile why not consider getting an anti-slip treatment applied to the tiles. For an average bathroom this would cost about $300 and providing the tiles are kept clean it will be effective for many years. Re: another porcelian tile question! 3Jan 09, 2009 7:49 pm I love the polished porcelain tiles, but I am not having them, but still love them, and I love what you are thinking carrying them up the bath and in the shower, it would look lovely and classy. If you are having those I would keep the rest simple, but that's just me I figure have one thing gorgeous and let it do the talking. The anti slip stuff is a good suggestion, as I could imagine they are probably a bit more slippery than the usual tile. Re: another porcelian tile question! 4Jan 26, 2009 8:06 pm Thanks for your relplies.
I have been dilly dallying about these porcelain tiles decided on them, then not to have them due to cost factor, but now have found a good tiler that will lay them for a good price so it looks like they are on again Will post a thread in the next day or two with my final colour and tile decisons. It will be nice to know what others think. Have decided against any borders, just going for 600x600 on floor and maybe 600x300 on walls that way the grout should line up, plus it will save me having to make another decision on what wall tiles to have The other option the tile seller suggested is that when I reach the toilet and bathroom floor I change to 300x300 size and do all the bathroom in this. Not sure which would look best at the moment though as the bathroom is only 2mt x 3mt.
