We have a problem with how the ensuite basin has been installed. The white sealant is very visible and looks innappropriate for the basin - any ideas on how this can be resolved? braveheart Re: Ensuite photos - ugly basin sealant 2Dec 14, 2008 6:33 am Hi Braveheart
Oh No! We have a similiar set up as well so I am going to tell our builder that I do not want to see sealant he already thinks I am a control freak You have such a beautiful, quality finish to your house so dont let them stuff it up because its easier and quicker for them. It will annoy you every time you go into the bathroom. Make them do it again. Mrs B Re: Ensuite photos - ugly basin sealant 3Dec 14, 2008 9:42 pm Thanks Mrs B. I raised my concerns with the SS but he thinks the installation was done according the the Australian Standards (whatever they are!) but it looks awful. I am now regreting not going for the square basin which was actually cheaper. braveheart Silicon 5Dec 15, 2008 3:24 pm Hi Braveheart
I can see what you say. White is the standard colour that is used. If you wanted something else now, it is possible to do, but is difficult to do well. ie: remove all the silicon so there is no residue. Looking at it, the white seal does not look too bad, but it is difficult to tell in a photo. An option for you may be to use Clear, which is less obtrusive. Keep in mind that it may be possible to see through it. Another issue is that you will need to choose a colour for the seal between the benchtop and the splashback tiles. This could be off white to match the benchtop? There is a large range of different coloured silcones on the market but even if you tried to match your vanity-top, more than likely, it will stand out. You could use clear but translucent I think would be the lesser of two evils...
I know it's a bit late now, but an undersink basin would have solved this aethetically but I wouldn't use such a setup in one of my houses. Re: Ensuite photos - ugly basin sealant 7Dec 19, 2008 7:22 pm I think those "bowl" basins will go the way of orange flares in a few years. Bad design in so many ways. Do the hard jobs first. Like Kwood said it’s a neat job. The white sealant will discolour after a while and won’t be so noticeable. Looks ok to me too! I have the same bowls with the same white silcone and it looks the same ... at most it will have a short lintel which could be moved up just below the ceiling or even above. Above means you need to patch the cornice and might need to deal with… 2 61339 Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6118 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11800 |
