Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 17, 2023 10:37 am G'day, We've had this door/hooks combo for over a year now and I've already fixed it twice, see pics. I'm looking for a more permanent solution (that hopefully doesn't include changing the door!) to secure hanging hooks to the bathroom door. I'm open to change the hooks. Do you guys have any first hand experience in fixing something very similar? Door: somewhat cardboard-y, not much meat for the screws to bite into I've tried to lower the hangers of about 10mm, use PVA glue to secure the back to the door surface and screw (10mm approx. length) them back. While I appreciate the suggestions/tips you'll send my way, please avoid "have you tried xxxx?" if you haven't done it yourself in a similar context. It's a waste of everyone's time Thanks in advance Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Bathroom door hangers 2Oct 17, 2023 9:12 pm It's pointless trying to screw into the 3mm MDF skin of the door. It will fail quickly as you have discovered. You could try glueing them with a white polyurethane glue (similar to silicone but stronger) and screwing into some new holes but the back of the robe hooks isn't really designed to be stuck on as it's not flat The best thing to do is get some 10mm MDF and cut larger plates maybe 200x150, clean up the edges and paint them the same as the door. Then fix your coat hooks to that and use a high quality double sided tape to adhere that to the door. You need a larger surface area to adhere to the door. The other thing you could try is to get some hooks like these https://www.bunnings.com.au/adoored-sat ... k_p3962175 And then use a good quality double sided tape on the back, because it's nice and flat and larger the tape will hold better, then also put in some screws that have the coursest thread you can fit in the hole. Make sure you pre drill the MDF and then don't overtighten the screws. I just bought the stick on type with a larger surface area base and used good double sided tape. It has held fine. However for my situation my doors are flat - with no fake grain texture so perhaps better suited to double sided tape. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Thanks Chippy .
