Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 20, 2022 7:50 am I had a leak under the tiles in my shower. After pulling up all floor tiles, i found a few small patches of timber rot in the board base. After removing all sand cement screed, i got down to the waterproof membrane. Now i have about a 30mm gap from the membrane/board to the wall tiles. I was thinking of installing a compressed fibre cement (15mm) sheet down, then tile over it, instead of sand and cement base. My question. Do i waterproof BEFORE laying in the compressed fibre cement sheet, or glue and screw it in then waterproof OVER the sheeting board before tiling? Re: Shower leak floor rebuild 4Oct 20, 2022 1:41 pm CoreyTroy Thanks for reply. Looks like there is a small section of wood rot up under the wall. Cut out 200mm etc and replace? Realistically you'd want to cut out the entire affected area out and rebuild the floor. You won't know if the joists are aff3cted untill you pull it up. It would take a half decent chippie an afternoon to do (after taking a look and arranging materials etc). Alternately you could do it yourself if you're handy, it's not too hard. Lots of videos online of people rebuilding after that excact problem. If you've ever built a deck or similar, you'll be fine. Re: Shower leak floor rebuild 5Oct 20, 2022 1:46 pm I have Gal hoists, no affect there. I just chipped dark area away, and I basically get a 3mm deep strip, and a single hole through about 50mm. I was thinking of temporarily plugging the underside, and fibreglassing the hole and the 3mm section. Then fit 15mm compressed cement sheet over the top. Sound sturdy enough? The photos look like extensive rot, though you're at the coalface so would know how bad it is or not. Though if you're confident the damage is solved, your suggested solution should hold up fine if the rest of the subfloor is in good nick Dark matter scientist, can breathe underwater, mind reader and can freeze matter just by willing it. If you make sure all taps inside and out are turned off, what does the water meter show if you leave it for a while. 2 20274 Hi all, I am hoping someone has some ideas as to what is causing my bathroom leak. The leaking appears to mainly happen when we turn the sink basins on. It takes a while… 0 5096 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Are you doing this with a building permit?
