excessive moisture read on wall behind shower

Hi all,

We are buying a property and the building inspector reported excessive moisture reading on a wall behind the shower. The seller got someone re-grouted and water proofed the shower, but the moisture reading is still high. Is this a serious problem? How can we find out if this is related to the shower recess/plumbing in wall cavity leaking?

Regrouting will improve looks to the tiled wall but grout itself is a pourus product not a sealer. The waterproofing you are talking about is probably just resilicone the shower junctions.

The building inspector who has read the high moisture should have told you it is most likely inside the wall behind the tiles. If you get a plumber he can look at removing the tap cover plates and using small camera to check inside the wall cavity or some good plumbers will have monitors that see the water through the wall, it will just cost you for this service but worth it.

Also check in the rooms that back onto shower walls for damage to skirting or wet carpet/floor areas

Thank you for your reply. I did get a plumber look at it and he didn't find a leak. There is damage to the skirting at the wall behind the shower. I can only hope it is now fixed and will dry over time...
