Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 15, 2022 4:46 pm Hi all, I'm looking for advice regarding a shower frame issue. In our new build, we have metal alongside the bottom of the ensuite shower as seen below, Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ whereas the main bathroom has bare tile like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The builder cannot (or has chosen to not) explain at all why they are built differently, other than a potentially poor justification that bare tile doesn't look good when it's that thin. After daily use for 2 weeks straight and after wiping the shower bone dry after each use, we noticed this corner and black discharge coming out. Their solution is to replace the silicone and seal up this corner and quote, "the mould will have nowhere to go". The builder maintenance is currently not amenable to removing the frame despite an assurance that there is tile behind there, or to clean the black discharge and replace the framing properly. And then each shower/use flushes more and more of this water out. Eventually enough water pressure is splitting the seal and coming out. (Below - blue lines). Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My fears of a potential reservoir of mold or mildew does not seem to worry the maintenance person at all, and they seem to defer to bathrooms having mold as normal. The shower installer who was tasked with fixing this problem, stated he had no idea of what was going on, and simply stated the metal framing shouldn't be there. Black discharge continues developing. My fears are dismissed as 'well it's only because you've got one bare tile, and the other with metal.' No one can apparently get in touch with tiler who did this job to explain why the metal is there. Am I unreasonable with my wish of wanting the metal removed, or at least the metal to be cleaned on the inside and be reinstalled properly at least? I am the furthest thing from a perspicacious homeowner but this, and the maintenance person's solution does not seem right to me at all. Thanks in advance, Re: Shower Frame Issue - New Build 3Feb 15, 2022 9:09 pm Pulse not really sure what the issue is, mould is normal for corners in showers. There is no defect that I can see. I've lived in 3 different rentals in the last 5 years and 2 permanent homes in the last 8 years and never had any mould/mildew in any lower part of the shower. Include the picture of the main shower and that makes 6 bathrooms mould or mildew free. The pictures of mould in the opening post was after first using the shower for 2 weeks daily and wiping it dry after each use. And water coming from inside an area that I'm helpless to clean. But your opinion is taken on board. This is 100% true. You can not hang anything on steel frames. very frustrating 8 8030 I need to replace some lengths of aluminum shower frame but I can't seem to find any suppliers of this stuff. Neither the blue or orange home centers carry these things.… 0 5400 2 5943 |
