Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 18, 2008 4:47 pm Today I went a bit crazy on an outing to Bunnings...
I got... - 2 glass shelves for the shower - 1 double towel rail (in satin chrome finish) - 1 toilet roll holder - 1 pack of new taps And some other stuff... Anyway, so my question concerns the taps...I see they sell the taps that I already have on my vanity and shower in a pack, as well as an assortment of others. I currently have the standard sort of "fat" look taps in cream with red & blue dots in the middle. They're circular sort of but with ridges...you know, like a octagon type shape I guess or something. The ones I bought are the type with hot & cold written in the middle and with only 4 slightly longer "fingers" that are rounded and thicker at the tips... Anyway...hopefully the above descriptions make sense. I'm concerned as to how difficult it will be for someone to replace the taps with my new ones. Will I need more parts to make them look complete? They seem to have different fittings down below the actual tap control part... How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: New taps for bathroom vanity & shower 2Oct 18, 2008 5:23 pm Grace, if you are asking whether you can replace them yourself, my answer is yes, but you need to be "handy" and you might have to buy some adjustment parts. It is hard to say without seeing your taps. If the question is wheteher a plumber can do it easily, the answer is yes, and you do not need anything, they will have all necessery parts. I think I mentioned a few months ago that my kids brought a tap for me from Europe and the plumber had no problems and it looks very spiffy in my kitchen. Re: New taps for bathroom vanity & shower 3Oct 18, 2008 8:49 pm Oh GOOD, that's great to know. Thank you! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: New taps for bathroom vanity & shower 4Oct 23, 2008 11:09 am Hi Grace, I agree with Maggie, most Basin Sets are universal and are not that hard to replace. The Spindle (or tap part) have a thread that the flanges screw on to which in most cases are universal also. Cheers Dom Taps Kitchen Taps Re: New taps for bathroom vanity & shower 5Oct 23, 2008 11:56 am Should be fine. Just make sure the seat for the spindle is clean when you install the spindle. I just recently replaced the shower taps with 1/4 turn taps, only took like 20mins.
Make sure you turn off the water at the mains first (just incase you didn't know you had to). Re: New taps for bathroom vanity & shower 6Oct 24, 2008 9:52 pm I don't actually want to replace the water spout tap thing. Just the hot & cold controller things. They're what I call "taps" (as opposed to the "faucet" or however you spell it, that is the actual water part).
I'm gonna get a handyman in to do almost everything I want, for $45 an hour plus materials (this is excellent. All the others were between $60 and $77 per hour plus materials...is $49 too cheap to be good though? *nervous now* lol) AND he says he can install the glass shelves in the shower enclosure onto the tiles, and also the water saver shower head, and maybe the taps, depending on how the pipes go into the wall (but I don't see why this would affect the hot & cold controller taps. It's just the top portion of them, nothing to do with the under sink pipes!) How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing!
