Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 02, 2021 12:06 am Hello, My client wants to build an ensuite within an existing footprint of the house. The existing slab is 100mm thick. I am wondering what is the best way to create falls to floor waste and shower waste? My last option is to have the ensuite floor higher to allow for falls. It might be a silly question but can the slab be ground down at an angle to create falls and therefore eliminate screeding? Thanks in advance! Re: Best way to create falls on existing concrete slab 2Oct 02, 2021 12:56 am Hi bc89 I know I have had to remove the bathroom slab at times in order to get the falls. I'm in Perth so we are on sand with 100mm raft slabs. We have quick cut the slab around the perimeter of the room. Jack hammered up the floor, changed all the waste plumbing to suit new layout and then keyed to the old slab reinforced and poured a new slab 30mm lower to allow for screed. Sometimes it's the only option. I guess you could grind but it all depends if it's a walk in hobless shower or if the only fall you have to worry about is the floor waste. If you have a hob for the shower you don't have to worry about the fall there it's just the floor waste you need to allow for.
