Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 17, 2021 11:43 pm Hi all, I'm building a new home shortly and just trying to finalize my plans. The last thing left is my bathroom layout. I'm not happy with how the builder has it currently as the shower is right there as you open the door and it can be seen from other end of the hallway, the bathroom is 2470 wide by 3190 long : Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The layout I'm wanting is shifting the shower to go where the vanity is and the vanity to where the shower is on the laundry wall. The issue my building consultant has with this is that the gap between the shower and bath will only be 670mm. Is this really that big of an issue? Thanks Re: Bathroom layout from new home 2May 18, 2021 12:37 am Yes, id say its probably a bit too squeezey... especially as you’ll struggle with the door opening for the shower too maybe constantly whacking it into the bath unless you go with a slide... plus will have to change the window too. Why not put the vanity where the shower is, move the bath to where the vanity is - change the window to the one above the bath and double up as a ledge for bath stuff, put shower where the bath is. That may be a good compromise? Re: Bathroom layout from new home 3May 18, 2021 7:37 am I was thinking about something like that but I haven't posted my whole design for context. My house is a ranch style home with 8 2057x850 windows across the front facade. If I change the style of window in that bathroom (which is positioned on the front facade) then it's going to look out of place and and not very good. I could probably narrow the window to maybe a 610 or 700 wide window so it fits in the gap? The shower door I could change to a 650 door so it doesn't hit the bath. My mind is saying to do it because I don't think it will be that bad but then again if it does turn out bad then I'll regret it. Re: Bathroom layout from new home 4May 18, 2021 8:52 am Do you have a current bath? Mark out 650 from it. Put a cardboard box next to - see how it feels? Or mark the dimensions out on the garage floor and get a feel for it...? Re: Bathroom layout from new home 5May 18, 2021 1:15 pm I have done the measurements and they seem fine to me currently but it's always hard to have a proper visual of it until it's done. I don't know if it will lower the value of the house should I end up selling it later? I'll be living in the house on my own so will never use the bathroom but I'm trying to think of the future should more people live in the house. Not sure if the narrow gap will make it harder to bathe kids in the bath? Another option is moving the bath to where the shower is and shower where the bath is. I think it would look better seeing a tiled bath from the hallway over a shower. Possibly both depending on the sizing. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end. A quick search on… 3 8382 Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6118 You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 15560 |
