Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 26, 2021 10:42 am Would you think a reputable builder such as Metricon would make sure the quality of waterproofing in their builds is A+? Obviously with our build it wasn't. Both shower recesses waterproofing gave out. The main bathroom shower was leaking 4 year's (2014) after the build (2010). It was initially dealt with by Metricon service and warranty by saying it was our fault as our daughters were letting the shower fill up with the water and it was leaking into the adjacent bedroom carpet. We took extra care to make sure this wasn't an issue without questioning Metricons response. We eventually noticed a cracked tile appear on the shower floor and after getting a plumber and waterproofing expert in they agreed it was a waterproofing issue, which isn't covered by insurance believe it or not. So we went back to Metricon (2019) who again were not interested until we threatened that we had an email of concern and had spoken to the relevant building authorities. We finally got Metricon to admit that the waterproofing used was indeed faulty and they repaired the shower late 2019 early 2020, no certificate has been supplied. Around that time with everything else happening a cracked tile appeared in the ensuite, and it wasn't until only recently we had a tiler out to replace that tile when we were told the reason the tile had cracked was there's literally no waterproofing in the ensuite, it's all disintegrated, so the water just sits in the bed and stays wet. Same poor waterproofing that was used in the build in BOTH wet area's, we just didn't see any signs in the ensuite until the crack appeared. Unfortunately Metricon are not willing to do anything further for the ensuite issue, so now we're down to one shower and looking at thousands of dollar's in repairs. We know it's outside of both warranties but surely they need to fess up that the poor quality waterproofing they used on our build in the first place is the reason why this has happened in the first place. Waterproofing in wet area's shouldn't be failing within four or five year's, Metricon are happy for that to happen though, along with telling their customers porkies to string them out past the warranty period so they can drop them like a hot potato and use that to get out of their poor workmanship to save money. As I was told by WetSeal, Metricon doesn't want to pay the money for quality material's. And now as we're seeing Metricons decision to save money on the quality of waterproofing has now directly effected their customer's. We chose Metricon for the style and quality of home over many other builder's, this has been a slap in the face. We won't be choosing Metricon again. Their sloppy work resulted in a number of bathrooms, laundry and balcony waterproofing jobs having to be rectified despite Dryman's prior issuance of their waterproofing 'certificates' Some customers would have picked up the defective work at their stage inspections, some, unfortunately, would have missed it. According to a waterproofing membrane manufacturers technical manager, Metricon's management were well aware of the Dryman defective waterproofing issues.

Yeah, to be honest, there are a lot of cases against Metricon. If you cared to search on jade.io, you’d find that there are at least 300 court cases decided against them, and that’s not counting the unreported cases and matters they had to settle. You’re not alone in your displeasure, and Metricon’s reputation certainly precedes them. In any case, in situations where the builder shirks their obligations, it might be a good idea to seek advice from a Construction Contract Lawyer at the outset, who can help you deal with matters involving breach of construction contract, building disputes, and the like.
