Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 13, 2020 1:18 pm My toilet's been leaking into the bowl for a few weeks now. So when you flush, water continues to flow into the bowl at varying flow...sometimes quite a big flow, othertimes just a drip. You then need to tap or reflush a few times for it to eventually stop. Will I need a plumber for this? Is there something I could try myself first? I'm reasonably handy but haven't really worked with toilets and cisterns before so not sure where to start. Thanks in advance. Re: Leaking toilet 2Nov 13, 2020 2:53 pm First step...adjust the float height. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. I'll need to check how to adjust the float height...but the water leaks into the bowl as soon as I flush...so when the tank is more or less empty. Need to keep tapping on the flush button a few times before it stops. Re: Leaking toilet 4Dec 09, 2020 4:25 pm It could be some foreign matter caught in the valve seat, but I have had issues in the past with the sealing washer on the valve seat. Our last house had Geberit internals and we had problems with the big silicone washers that seal the outlet. They developed what looked like blisters and stopped sealing. The water just slowly ran into the toilet, gradually getting worse. Worse thing was we couldn't buy the genuine geberit washer, we had to buy a whole new fitting. We replaced them several times over seven years. Needless to say, our new house dose not use Geberit cistern internals. I think I'll remove all the water and try to check the valves. The problem really seems inconsistent...sometimes when you flush there's no leak. Other times a constant trickle back into the bowl. And other times, it's like a real bubbly type flow and you need to tap on the buttons a few times to get it to stop. Re: Leaking toilet 7Jan 18, 2021 11:52 am You need to look at the cistern valve seal (washer) and either clean or replace as per chippy's post. A new seal is usually only a few dollars. The seal is the one activated by the float at the top, NOT the bottom seal. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: Leaking toilet 9Jan 18, 2021 4:11 pm Edit...just went down to Reece and got a new valve seal. Replaced it and seems to have donr the trick for the most part. Tiny trickle now...the bloke at Reece said that may be the case for a little bit and a few flushes and just until the seal moulds to the spot. Hope that's right! Re: Leaking toilet 10Jan 18, 2021 4:42 pm Well done. Houses are now pressure limited to a max 500 kPa but the mains cistern valves are still sold with 1,200 kPa pressure rated seals due to pipes still being legislated to be Class 12 rated. What cistern valve do you have? If you have the popular compact Fluidmaster 400UK063, it has the standard high pressure seal but there are two lower pressure options that are a bit softer. You can Google the Fluidmaster to view it to see if that is what you have but the leak should stop if everything is clean. 3in1 Supadiverta.
